Any high school football fans that watched games in the late 60s to late 70s?

I'm looking for some help here for a book I may write.
I'm trying to find people that played against, with, or watched my uncle play football. Even if you only heard if him. I haven't even got into this enough to know the exact years he played, yet,but I believe he was on the 1967 Jesuit Shreveport state championship team,and was MVP. More on that game below.
He went to what was then called Jesuit, in Shreveport Louisiana. The school is now, Loyola prep. He played in 1967 as a senior ,I believe. BTW, He has died already, and I'd like to put his achievements in words for our family.
I'm trying to have his family see him in a different light.instead of the family remembering him dying as a lonely alcoholic ,I want to put something together to show his achievements.
Let me know if you watched him, heard of him, or played against him. He had one of the top performances in the history of the Louisiana state high school playoffs as a kr, pr, cb, and rb. U believe he scored on an int, pr td, rushing td, and receiving td, all in the same state championship game.
His name is Dalton. Lol, like from roadhouse.it really isn't. Lol
But really, his name is Danny yerby. His younger brother Dennis, was a fast rb as well.
I remember when I was a senior in high school and at Xmas, me and my cousin were talking shite to each other. I had just ran a legit 4.6 40 laser timed.i thought I was hot shite because I had just got back from speed camp and they took me from 4.9 to 4.6 in a month .My cousin was playing Lb at northwestern state and was trying to say his 4.69 was more impressive cuz of his size, at 225,cuz I was a safety at 180lbs.
anyway ,during this discussion we were shown a letter from a scout or whoever it was. The letter had verified 4.39 and 4.35 40 times for my two uncles.
This is when I realized how legit, especially Danny was. I've been told he was the best combo of speed and toughness that's Jerry Byrd has seen to this day. Jerry told my dad that Warick Dunn sp?,and my uncle Dan were the two best players he's ever seen, also the fastest in pads
Anyway, my other uncle Dennis`son is named James yerby, he played at Haughton and graduated in 2000,he was playing both ways as a starter at the Mike Lb spot and at qb his senior year. Big ads dude at qb used to absolutely blow 150 pound Dbs up when he threw a pick. I mean he used to take it out on those little Dbs, at a disturbing level. Late hits after a pick happened on more then 3 occasions. He through a bunch of picks lol
Please, I'd appreciate it if nobody trolled this post,the man had a tough time in his later years and died recently. if anyone has heard of Danny yerby, Dennis yerby or James yerby, please let me know.
This is a potential book about Danny yerby, if you have good info on him, there may be financial compensation in the future.

Have you contacted the athletic department at Loyola Prep.? That would be the first step. Many schools have an older faculty member or parents who stuck with the school and kept a history.
Bro. Neal Golden at Brother Martin is a repository of athletic history at St. Aloyisus, Cor Jesu-----> and now Brother Martin. Perhaps contacting him through Brother Martin High School he could give you some leads as to who in the Shreveport area may have similar interests.
Mr. Ron Brocato of the Clarion Herald may know people in the Shreveport area who keep high school sports' history.
It's a lovely thing you're doing. Speak to the librarian at Loyola, they may be much younger and not know much, but they may have old school newspapers and the athletic archives.
Check with a public librarian in the area who may be able to point you to Shreveport newspapers from back in that time period. There may well have been more extensive high school sports coverage in the papers than now, as there was likely more interest.

Your best bet may be to head to Shreveport and hit the libraries looking for historic records from that time like old newspaper articles and such on microfiche.
Perhaps, if the school is still operating, they'd have some information you could check out in their archives.

I saw a post on here a while back that was in response to a thread that was asking for opinions on the best high school players of all time, in Louisiana.
I'll look for it on Google Tom. Someone said my uncle, Danny yerby. IDK if it was for db rb or special teams though. I got the impression, that this was based on stats and not first hand knowledge .
I know Jerry Byrd from the bossier press tribune wrote that he was 160 pounds soaking wet and as tough as a pine knot.that guy must be dead by now though.
I bet he is, or he's done writing, one.
I think my uncle was all state as a corner, running back, and as a return specialist, all in the same season.

Thanks for that link, I was 100% sure that my uncle was all-state at rb in 1967 ,but your link shows that he really was all-state at rb ,and at db, in 1967.
That's got to be rare. To be all state at rb and at corner,while being as big a weapon in the return game as there has ever been, all in the same state championship season, well, that aint too bad for a 160 lb white boy. Lol
I'm pretty sure he was all state as a return specialist too in his career.i thought it was that 67 year, but didn't see it on that link.

Like I said, Jerry Byrd ,was a writer or is a writer for the bossier press tribune and he covered all the high school football games.
Anyone know if the library has archives like that? Kinda like in the movies when people always go to the library and look at pages and pages of old newspaper clippings and stories on computer monitors. Does this exist at all library's pretty much? I'm sure shreve memorial library will have archives if thats a common thing

That's easy...You need to talk to JJ and Ben Marshall. They do local sports talk radio M-F on KWKH AM1130 in the 5:00 PM slot and have for years. Ben Graduated from Jesuit early '70's and JJ was the QB on the '76 undefeated Jesuit state champs. JJ also is the media arts teacher at LCP and calls football, basketball and baseball for the school. He would know and there are also several teachers that have been there for around 50 years that are also alums.

In my line of work I have had the privilege to meet many of the retired Jesuit priests from all over, and of all days, today I have one who was once the principal at Jesuit in Shreveport in early 70s.
He remembers their names and that they were good athletes, and seems to remember all the key figures that have been mentioned in this thread.
He added some coaches names and felt like they may still be around. A Tony Sardisco, Tony Papa, Tony Cantonese, a Rinaldo and a Hardy. He remembered the first names of the 3 b/c they were all Tony.

Just an update here. Friday evening I was listening to the above radio show and I texted the cell phone line that they have available for people to text them . I asked the guys about my uncle, Danny yerby, and asked them If they knew him ,and if so, what was he like as a player.
I didn't get the text read over the air, which is unusual. I just figured it was something that was too old and too unknown by the audience listening for them to justify reading it live on air. I just figured it wasnt meant to be and weant about my day.
Well, about 20 mins later, I get a text from that same texting phone line number. The crazy thing is what he said in that text. he said they were actually in the process of filming a documentary about my uncle and about his performance in the state championship in 1967.
It wasn't just about him, but about that game and that team, but he said without my uncle he wouldn't have had the idea to do it.
In that game, my uncle had 4 or 5 tds. I know he had a pick six, rushing td, receiving td, and a punt return td, I'm also somewhat sure that I've heard he also had a kickoff return for a td.
Either way, it's still known as the best championship game performance in Louisiana high school football history according to many

Yes, I watched danny yerby when I was a freshman at Jesuit high school, shreveport. I went to all the games that year and watched the championship game at the State fair grounds in shreveport. I wish I could remember more. It was probably the best high school game I've ever seen. The football term back then for a running back such as danny was "scat back"....He was that. Never knew he did a 4.3 in the forty. No wonder he accomplished what he did. I did not know him personally, however, his younger brother ,Francis Yerby, was in my class. He did not play football.
The other brother, Dennis, did play but I don't recall him achieving the status that Danny did.
