Lol. We shouldn't even claim our 58 title. Anything before the BCS era is useless.

There is no better time to crown that 1908 team than this upcoming season. We have absolutely nothing on the line. We aren’t trying to make ourselves look more relevant than we already are.
We have won 3 national titles in the last 16 seasons. We have always had 4 National Championships going into New Orleans this year.

We make fun of aTm and their fake nattys! We are not them or Bama claiming crackerjacks national championships! Just give me 59, 03, 07 and 19

1908 NC is not a fake title! It’s legitimate and it’s recognized by the NCAA.

No we shouldn't, unless you want to say lend credence to the idea that USC is just as much a national champion as we were in 2003.
The difference is that in 2003 we were in the BCS era where everyone agreed before the season that the BCS winner is the Champion.

The sole NCAA champion by the way. You can’t get any more legit than that. The only undefeated & untied team. The point per minute team. I had an Auburn fan mention that reference. How in the hell does that guy know about that.

Side note: 1908 was 112 years ago.
A 20 y/o Tiger that played that season was born in 1888. The avg lifespan back then was 40 years, so he probably passed away in 1928, if he escaped death during WWI or The Spanish Flu.
RIP to some great Tigers I'm just learning about.

That I know of only one player on the 1908 team passed away from the Spanish Flu, he was up in Oregon and joined the Army and was a Major in the medical crops. this Wingards brother in-law.
Most of the team lived into the late 1930's and early 1940's, some even made it to the 1950's and 1960's, Doc Fenton lived to 1968.
Doc was born in 1887 and Mansfield Normal is not a college, it was a prep school. Today Mansfield is a college, back in those days eight grade was the highest level of school, you went to a prep school to get a teaching degree or prep for college. Louisiana had many prep schools back in those days like all states.
First death on the team was Clarence Smith passing away less that 4 weeks after the season.

I don't have a problem with undefeated teams claiming championships in an era when the titles were ISSUED by subjected and ambiguous measures. No team with a loss should claim a championship unless it was WON under the BCS or current playoff format!

Nice. I had been wondering if any had lived to see another Tiger championship, then after figuring out the average lifespan, I became discouraged. Good post. I'm glad a handful of them got to see it.
Doc looks like he beat the odds and made it into his 80s, in the year I was born.

This x1000. I think Michigan claims 7 or 8 pre poll championships.
Of the 11 national championships the school claims, 10 were before 1058.
5 were before World War I

What was football like before 1058?

They got fricked, if we’re being honest. Should have been us and USC in New Orleans.

This is a great injustice to our school
The lack of recognition is a great injustice to the men who played on that team,.
They were LSU and the school needs to recognize their feats and accomplishments
Long long overdue.

The old NCAA Football game on PS2 had a loading screen that referenced the Points Per Minute 1908 10-0 LSU team if you were playing a game as LSU.
Long overdue.
