I've read it was as wild as the south gets. What were the peak years? What killed it?

Is that what killed most of the bars and sleazy hotels on Texas in between downtown and the track?

During the 90’s it was a no-go zone unless you wanted to get shot or shoot someone.

My old bossman swore it was a legit party scene. Drugsz prostitution, drag racing... then they decided to turn the BCPD loose and clean it up. Never really reined them back in.

I lived in the Shreveport area in the mid 70s and places like the Sport Page was where it was at. I think several Dallas Cowboys owned so during the off season, they would be there. It also hosted a pool exhibition by Willie Moscona... he was old but he could still play. It was a great place to go.

I think you are talking about Texas Street in Bossier "The Bossier Strip". Several strip clubs there at one time thanks to Barksdale. My dad and his friends thought about driving over from Waco in the 60s.

Think it was a 60s early 70s thing. Maybe late 50s. By the time I was old enough to party in the early 80s it was a run down scene with hardcore drinker bars and underage motel parties. All the hot spots were away from the strip. Though Stars was close.

The Wild Orchid, can always bet amongst your buds if you'll see more C-section scars or bullet scars on any given night.

saks whisk a go go was the most notable place in the 60’s.

Is the Screamin’ Dog still open?

That's what I'm referring to

As Dan Jenkins observed in Life Its Ownself, sport-fricking by housewives in the 60s and 70s put a lot of hookers out of business.

Bossier Strip was top notch for partying in the 60s.
No rules. No real age limit. Wild times. Personally visited it many times.

Blind Tiger was still cool to hang out in and in walking distance of that club where the Eldorado basically is now. But yeah, Vertigo and Stars was a hot spot for several years.

The strip was different place.( called The Bossier Strip)..it was in bossier where all the strip clubs were and racetrack came in.... very very rough ...clubs sketchy and entertainment )girls) pretty rough also... you could go there and if not careful disappear..
You are talking about the Shreveport side under the bridge.Across the river from the bossier river walk now (which was nothing but warehouses then) ..as you come down texas Street from up the hill at the big church .....you walk along each side of the bridge and end up under it... Under was brick pavers and a band stand with entertainment on the weekends....all along each side were bars and restaurants .... think TGIFridays type... disco was big and there was a big disco two story club .....then if you kept walking to the river once you hit the street running along the river to the right were more bars —-clubs—-restaurants...
You parked down by the river in a very very big lot... yes it was very very happening..think of the quarter concept without bourbon street and strip clubs (they were not here) more like the fun streets around the quarter ... but only Very a small scale.... disco was king and party!!! Take the kids from dazed and confused ( which is scary how much it captured my high school) and put them on a side street to bourbon with no strippers...
It died before the casinos came in...idk... I suspect the drinking age changing from 18 to 21???? Lots of us high schoolers trying to mingle with the young professional/college crowd...
