Billy Bones got them dance moves.
Hopefully season 2 is better than season 1, felt like a chore to get through.

why is it that it looked like those actors were having fun, then the shot changed to ellen paige and it just killed the vibe. every single time.
PS Billy Boones is great.

I enjoyed season 1, until the very end. Didn't care for the ending. Curious to see how they follow that up. I enjoyed season 1 enough to carry on.

She is miserable person. I really wish they would have cast someone else for Vanya/The White Violin. They nailed almost every other casting decision but hers.

Agreed.
Stick figure Paige has never seemed happy. In any role. In any interview. And now, even dancing. I looked up the graphic novel after the show and yea, Paige as such an oddball, nonsensical casting choice. Frankly, I don’t even think she’s a very good actress either.

The ending had to be that way. I would assume they are going to use the source material called "Dallas" for the second season. It's another great story arc and the only other existing material for them to use. I don't see Gerard Way writing another season just for Netflix right now. He is just going to use what he has.

Loved the season, but didn't care for the ending. Excited for season two.

I didn't know about any of the source material. I just found it on Netflix and thought it might be interesting.
I didn't hate the ending so much that I thought it was a waste of time. Just felt rushed, somehow. Like I said, I'll carry on with it because I enjoyed it for the most part.

Honestly, the "miserableness" kinda worked during the beginning. You genuinely got the impression she had a horrible life.
I agree though, that if she (Vanya) is to grow then Paige needs to grow as an actress.
That said, she didn't ruin the show for me at all. Season 1 was really good regardless and I'm looking forward to Season 2.

You hear about the horrors of typecasting... but there is a reason for it. You will note that Werner Herzog is not cast as the romantic lead. Though he has cheerfully spoofed his image with his voice over work in animation.
You cast Ellen Paige as a miserable *$(% because her resting bitch face is that of a miserable *$(%. She might be wonderful in person. She might be the life of the party. But she just exudes "I'm miserable and the world sucks" without saying a word.

Finally got around to watching season 2.
I just wanna say, though I really am enjoying the characters, some of the story plots are ridiculous.
In particular, Vanya's actions are stupid selfish.
I hate how the show makes it seem like she SAVED that housewife from a life of dreary family life. Frankly, she's got no right to get all jealous of a man who married a woman, then worked his arse to provide for her and their troubled child. What a colossal biotch she is for not just walking away , thinking about others and oh yean, saving the FREAKING PLANET instead of putting her own scissoring fantasies ahead of literally everything else.
Still a fun show.

From the other Season 2 threads:
quote:
Carl was a dick, made jokes about his son's affliction, and was using his son's treatment to blackmail the nanny into leaving.
At no point was he looking out for the kid. He wanted him institutionalized (first) as a threat to Vanya and (second) to punish his wife for trying to leave him.
Throw in that he had to have the nanny pick his drunk arse up from a strip club. He's far from husband or father of the year (even in '63).

Never claimed he was, but what ever their homelife, it's none of Vanya's concern. So you crucify the father because he's not Ward Cleaver, huh? That's rich. Wifey wasn't married off by her family to pay some debt, was she? No, she said yes to this bozo, and made her choice. For better or worse, right? He wasn't beating her, he wasn't gambling away their savings or owe huge debts to bookies, did he? If he was really 2-timing her, it was implied, not shown, though he did say he was faithful to her. Not something SHE can claim , now is it ?
The Kennedy family lobotomized one of the sisters, and yet THEY get treated like freaking American royalty.
If the writers wanted to make Vanya's case more legit, have him beating Sissy, cheating on her, gambling away the mortgage payments, etc... not making sales and landing accounts, but still a class A jerk. Sorry cupcakes, life isn't always perfect.
( And it's not ' again ' for me, as I just got around to seeing it )

They recasting Vanya to someone who is a woman and can act or what?
Posted on 3/25/21 at 5:56 pm to TheeRealCarolina
Doubtful.
The credits already say ' Elliot ' Page.
So she's a he now, playing a chick.
Got it ?

I can’t imagine Netflix ever expected this turn of events when casting Page.

It’s one thing for her to have people call her a male now, but she has gone under the knife even and is in the process of changing her entire physical appearance. How can they even justify bringing her back for a third season?
It seems to me that they’ve been given no choice but to switch Darrens , a la ‘ Bewitched’. I’m guessing because of the China virus they were unable to film season three yet, so maybe they have time to come up with Plan B?.
