Judge blocks North Carolina Governor's virus-related orders on churches

GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) - A federal judge in North Carolina on Saturday sided with conservative Christian leaders and blocked the enforcement of restrictions that Gov. Roy Cooper ordered affecting indoor religious services during the coronavirus pandemic.
The order from Judge James C. Dever III came days after two Baptist churches, a minister and a Christian revival group filed a federal lawsuit seeking to immediately block enforcement of rules covering religious services within the Democratic governor’s executive orders. Dever agreed with the plaintiffs, who argued that the limits violate their rights to worship freely and treat churches differently from retailers and other secular activities.
Cooper’s latest order still largely prevented most faith organizations from holding indoor services attended by more than 10 people. His office had said the newest order stating permitted services may “take place outdoors unless impossible” carries only a narrow exception, such as when religious activities dictate they occur indoors with more people.
quote:
“The assembly for religious worship provisions in (Executive Order) 138 starkly illustrate the extent to which religious entities and individuals are not subject to neutral or generally applicable law,” Dever wrote in a 22-page order granting the plaintiffs’ emergency motion for a temporary restraining order. “The record, at this admittedly early stage of the case, reveals that the Governor appears to trust citizens to perform non-religious activities indoors (such as shopping or working or selling merchandise) but does not trust them to do the same when they worship indoors together.”
Cooper’s spokesman, Ford Porter, said the governor’s office disagrees with the decision but will not appeal it.

Does the GOP have a decent challenger for this assclown? (I know it's unlikely...)

Well it doesn't make a lick of sense. You can go hang out in Walmart for the last two months...but if you darken the door of a church they are taking names and issuing tickets

It is not coincidental that churches are being targeted in all of this.

These polls are crap.
I dunno. Cooper is a hair over 50. Forest doesn't have name recognition so he still has to sell the voters on him.

quote:Oh it's worse than that. Cooper said for indoor services only 10 people could attend, regardless of the size of the church. Now in NC we have churches as little as a 20X20 room, and as large as a sports colosseum, so it was simply a harebrained nonsensical order.

McCrory was a bonehead and lost because of the interstate thing is what I hear LINK
Duke Energy spilled ash in waterways, big tainted water controversy...
Forest is known in NC just as well as Cooper. Cooper is now known for shutting NC down longer to cater to his dem overlords. Wilmington NC is tourist dependent and plenty of small businesses are pissed at Cooper.
So the polls are crap. I think Forest does much better. Those polls are crap-like asking a bunch of democrats. Trump's DIL is native to coastal NC Wilmington, Trump won there and it is a dem stronghold.

I called this shite months (and was heavily downvoted by beta melt NPCs) that this is a First Amendment violation.

Forest will win this Fall. He’s been on the attack the whole way against Cooper on the closings just coming from the Governors office. I’ve got a feeling he could be the DeSantis of North Carolina.

Cooper said maybe Phase 2 before May 22nd. Mighty democrat of him.

I think the judges order forced phase two on Cooper. He wanted to milk it to June.

LOL@ NC's dem governor. Phase 2 does not officially take place until today @ 5PM, with movie theaters still closed.
Also no large gatherings blah blah blah

I can report that Emerald Isle is PACKED and it is a beautiful day. There are more than 25 people and no one GAF about spacing.

Remember he is only there because the kook left got enough voters out to make sure that mentally ill men can go take a shite with little girls present.
