This was said during the house committee meeting today but I didn't catch his whole "speech"/answers -- was hard to understand him as he was wearing a mask (this isn't a dig).

NOLA.com

"The new reporting will include "individual names of nursing homes and all the metrics that are involved in each particular nursing homes," Block told the committee."

So yeah for that. It's about time.

It seems that way.

eta: those with confirmed cases ... they HAVE to be reported to the CDC. But I pray that there are no cases being hidden ... that would be a travesty and the home, in my opinion, should be shut down if they do that.

Oh and the rep on his high horse about the home across the street from his house has 9 deaths and 10 confirmed cases. The LDH is sending in a "Strike team".

The facility where I work (contract, working from home currently) has 10 deaths the last time I checked and 50ish positives. I 100% guarantee you NO ONE from LDH went in to help them.

Is this a gotcha of some sort? Like 2/3 of all nursing homes in the state have multiple patients positive and vast majority are already reporting to LDH.

All the info is there for anyone who know how to use google.

If there are in fact NH that are hiding cases then they should suffer consequences, my question is why would you hide it?

The goal was never to keep it out of nursing homes forever. It was to slow the rate of infection so symptoms can be more effectively addressed and local hospitals won’t fill up with nursing home patients overnight.

Not really ... LDH quit reporting the names quite some time ago. And no nursing home will put on social media that they have cases. LDH has been giving numbers only on M/W but no facility names.

IDK why they would hide it ... I really don't. The one where I work called every responsible party of a resident and kept them updated on new cases that came across.

The home where my grandmother is hasn't said a word and got super defensive when my parents inquired. I'm skeptical that there are cases in the parish where I live (I work in a different parish) for exactly what you said .. it really can't be kept out in my opinion.

I asked my Grandpa earlier, he has not been tested & he has not had a shower since 4/17

What I don’t understand is they are doing exactly what is being blamed on all the deaths in other nursing homes: staff working multiple halls & moving residents to different wings

Since this started my Grandpa has had 3 people across from him, the last that had been there for years passed, they brought in a new admit that lasted 3 weeks & now a lady moved from her room on what they made the Covid hall

The Covid nurses are only allowed on that hall but laundry staff & maintenance moves throughout all halls

The not reason the state got involved with the Point Coupee home was because of the rep.
LDH is a joke especially with JBE giving orders via the nursing home lobby.

I don’t have many nice things to say about nursing homes but in reality the people working are doing the best they can with very limited resources (payroll limits, budgets on food & supplies....)

Not all are letting family members know ... telling them that there are cases is not a HIPAA violation as no one tell names. But families develop friendships and some residents have cell phones so the actual resident name may get out BUT it isn't given by the facility.

If they hide it from the state, they should be severely sanctioned in my mind. And there should be something done about hiding from families as well.

My mother is in an assisted living facility.
There were a number of residents who fell ill a few weeks ago and they quickly blamed it on some bad soup that was served.
I question that excuse

Every facility in the country will have COVID in it. If not already a week a month 6 months from now.

There is no magic date that this thing is going to disappear and LDH themselves will have to allow visitors pat some point.

Nursing homes received a good chunk of money to help them deal with having to buy additional supplies, PPE, staffing issues, etc. They are expecting a second round of additional funding to come out in the next few weeks.

Most nursing homes have covid wards so it won't be a big deal

I do appreciate you saying this ... I can only speak for my facility, but they really do care and do their best .. I know that many tears were shed with the deaths, some more than others BUT they are all loved. We know their favorite shows, that they want black coffe or 2 sugars and so on, that their favorite candy is XXX and bring it to them. They get to be family really.

For us we set up the iso unit 3 weeks before the first positive .. but visitors were not allowed beginning 3/11. Not sure how it got in but as residents were symptomatic they had to be moved -- nurses in that wing did everything ... feed, bathed (bed), housekeeping, you name it and they did it. NO ONE except I think lab/xray were allowed but you had to check things. Eventually a priest was allowed to give last rites but by then it almost I think didn't matter who came in/out (NO they didn't make changes; that's just my thought).

Until the majority of your residents have it and you can't consolidate anymore and you've already been having to move residents. It's been rough on them for sure.

NH are mostly operated by management companies. Those funds will not necessarily be realized at the facility level. Large portions of that money will go to the management company to cover lost revenue.

They do but where my Grandpa is just put the Covid hall in place 3 weeks ago
They are also moving the people out of their rooms to other halls without testing to see if they are asymptomatic so they are infecting other halls
