The child has autism. Which means it truest needs to be a service animal that is trained. A true service animal that helps in these situations cost between $15k-$30k. Some getting up to $50K. So most people can’t just “buy their own dog”

You’re assuming the dad isn’t already doing those things. How do you know he’s not? Before you attack with vitriol, make sure have all the facts. You might. You might not. But this isn’t the place to really condemn a man/dad for doing what he thinks best for his son.

they also cant go out and buy their own vehicle, home, boat, etc either

so what do those people do? that's correct. they take out a loan.

they can also work extra or put on a fundraiser. there are plenty of options that do not include online panhandling.

Does those people also have the medical expenses that this family would possibly have? How about medical bills due that also would have put their debt to income ratio. In a position that they may not be able to get a loan. Comparing the two is not possible without having all the information. Those families your talking about don’t have the same expenses pulling at them as a family with a disabled Chile would have. Between doctors, therapy, etc that the normal family doesn’t have. So with a home, vehicles , etc can the family afford another line with the other added expenses of having a disabled child? I would venture to say probably not.

Hopefully you have the little guy in ABA therapy already.

Not to sound like an arse, but would like to know if he’s getting speech therapy, OT, ABA, etc. currently. Those would be more important in regards to funding. than a service dog.

Look into local hippo therapy/therapeutic riding places if you are looking to incorporate animals into the treatment.

Yes he’s in ABA but due to the coronavirus they have been closed for 2 months now. No plan to reopen anytime soon. The discontinued the speech because they couldn’t compensate the therapists for it. He also was having home visits on the weekends for speech and OT but no one is doing home visits anymore. He does a virtual visit for speech twice a week for an hour each but it’s not much compared to what he was getting. Hope this answers your question.

This is awesome. I think he would love this. Once everything is open again this is something I’m going to check out. Thanks for the info.
