It's amazing you guys manage to continue to push the narrative that it's all the media and liberals causing the shutdowns. The media hype plays a role, sure, but the entire fricking world is shutting down because of this virus. It isn't MUH LIBS.

It was definitely a massive overreaction. It’s the equivalent of burning a house down because of termites.

100% wrong. The initial reaction was appropriate for the data they had at the time. Of course there are millions of people on message boards all over the country that know better than the experts and president, even without half the data that they have.
It is the one of the most contagious viruses scientists have ever seen. That was the reason for the initial reaction.
NOW, we have data that proves it is not as deadly as originally feared, even though it is every bit as contagious as originally known.
WITH THAT, they need to come out and be honest about it.
Say "This virus is extremely contagious, which was the reason for the initial reaction. Now that we have looked at all the data, it is not as deadly of a virus as originally feared. We will open back up 100% and monitor the situation at a regional level and stamp out any outbreaks as they happen. People with underlying conditions should still take every precaution, but be responsible for themselves. May God continue to bless America"

Why don’t we let people who aren’t scared go back to work while the others can voluntarily quarantine in their holes. Even let those of us who aren’t scared take their jobs.

This is the right answer - personal responsibility. You have to take responsibility for the decisions you make; if you want to put yourself and your family at greater risk, so be it.

By the same token, you shouldn’t be allowed to put others at greater risk due to your decisions. There are doctors and nurses that have contracted this disease while doing their jobs. If you contract the disease while the medical professionals advised you to stay home and you chose to ignore their advice, take personal responsibility and don’t go to the hospital no matter how bad it gets. Take personal responsibility and don’t increase the medical professionals chances of getting the disease even one iota.

I’m all for it, but make sure you truly live the creed. Don’t change your tune if you’re suddenly the one in need. It’s all about personal responsibility.

Solid logic. Let’s add smokers and people who eat themselves into obesity too.

Solid logic. I remember the great quarantine of 2012 for second hand smoke and diabetes. Man, remember how the whole world shut down and the medical professionals told everyone to stay home. Yeah, directly analogous.

I remember all the doctors contracting diabetes by breathing the same air. It was a crazy time for sure.

And some are now coming out stating that we did the wrong thing by shutting down.

Well, if SOME have come out, let’s ignore the vast majority that haven’t. Hell, I’m all for it - just take responsibility for your choices. What’s wrong with personal responsibility? Bunch of commies

I know that much of the rest of the world is more liberal than SE section of the US.

But some people around here act like it's all an act to get Trump. It's asinine.

Actually think it may have been worse and prolonged if a demon rat was in office. They’d completely seize on this opportunity to go full socialist as we’ve seen from Nancy and Co.

It isn’t an act to get Trump.

That is stupid, although how he responded will he used against him.

The big issue is whether or not it was the appropriate course of action and judging by the likely long term global effects of our decisions, it really is starting to appear as if we chose poorly.

This is the sort of situation that wars, famines, starvation, and a copious number of other problems arise from.

The impact of the economic turmoil can lead to serious global consequences, not to mention catastrophic national ones.

On top of all of that, just the general notion that people want to extend this into the fall, makes for an even worse health situation when you compound the coronavirus situation with a flu/respiratory season.

But that is too far in the future for anyone to even care about.

We cut off our nose to spite our face.

You would think that as we get additional data we'd use that data to refine our strategy, but nope. It seems as though the virus is possibly even more infectious than initially believed but also less severe, like you said. However the media hasn't really covered that at all, unlike the plethora of "society is forever changed, millions might die" articles that Vox, the Atlantic, etc pushed out before we had any good data to whip people into a frenzy. The end result is that the Facebook Karens and OT Kevins aren't even aware of the reality we're now faced with.

Don’t assume as fact that which has yet to come into existence.

It could turn out that directly injecting Lysol into the lungs combined with a Z-pak and Hydroxychloroquine treatment could be a miracle cure. If that happens, he’ll be regarded as a genius - bigly. There’s a chance he goes down as the greatest medical mind of the 21st century.

Fingers crossed

People like you are more idiotic than Trump’s response.

And his response was very dumb.

Anyone who plays gotcha politics is pretty low IQ.

More so than injecting Lysol to the lungs? Man, I should see if there are special parking spots for people like me. Thanks for the heads up.
