Computer Processors for Gaming

I am building a gaming computer and I am trying to decide on a processor. There is a pretty large price jump going for an i9 or Ryzen 9 from an i7 or a Ryzen 7. I have heard that you will not find that much of a difference for the price, however if i am going to build one, I want to make sure that the 7's won't be obsolete in a year or two.

i don't even think you need a Ryzen 7 for gaming. the Ryzen 5 should be good enough
if you're doing video editing or live streaming? yeah get the 7/9 is probably going to show a better performance
you should just stick with the Ryzen 7 if you want to ensure near-max level for a few years
just be sure to get fast RAM with it

Yep, gaming is much more dependent on GPU than CPU. Ryzen 5 is definitely good enough to not have to worry about any bottlenecking, but if you want to be sure it will last a while you can get the Ryzen 7 if you have the extra cash.
My advice would be to get a Ryzen 5, 3600 speed RAM, and then use the money you save on CPU for a better GPU (if you are getting one).

What sloflowpro said. I'd also add that the newest r7 or r5 3k series is awesome. But the 2k series 2nd gen is probably the best budget bet out there atm. Even the r7 1800x isn't a slouch. I've got a r7 2700x and it's all I need for video editing and light gaming.

What are your goals for this PC? What type of games are you running?
And what resolution are you running at?

The highest resolution will be Flight Simulator 2020 when it comes out which I am sure will be in 4k. If I am going to build one I want to make sure that no matter what comes out that I may want to play it will run it without question at the highest settings.

If you’re just gaming... and you want the highest at 4K... get a 9900k with a 2080ti.
That or wait for the 3080 to come out.
Intels new 10th gen chips won’t give you much of an upgrade over the 9900k, plus early testing has revealed a lot of heat issues, which somewhat exist with the 9900k without adequate cooling.
If you wanna go cheaper, get a Ryzen 7 3700x with a 2080ti. Won’t push as high frame rate but for 4K it’s a lot lesser of a difference than at 1080p, but will save you some money, and you’d still have an upgrade path down the road.
