Federal Judge Blocks Kansas Limits on Religious Gatherings

A federal judge on Saturday blocked Kansas from limiting attendance at in-person religious worship services or activities to 10 people or fewer to check the spread of the coronavirus, signaling that he believes that it’s likely that the policy violates religious freedom and free speech rights.
The ruling from U.S. District Judge John Broomes in Wichita prevents the enforcement of an order issued by Gov. Laura Kelly if pastors and congregations observe social distancing. The judge’s decision will remain in effect until May 2; he has a hearing scheduled Thursday in a lawsuit filed against Kelly by two churches and their pastors...
“Churches and religious activities appear to have been singled out among essential functions for stricter treatment,” Broomes wrote in his order.

How the hell does kansas of all places elect someone who would even ponder doing this?
Their governor is fricked if voters remember this.

This is when Trump’s judicial picks come in handy

The last governor decided to see how low on the Laffer curve he could go. And he went too far.
Also, the Kansas Supreme Court fricked his budget over pretty good. And the teacher’s unions did a great job of attacking him in concert. And his replacement candidates were all just shite.

This is the second state I know of where a fed judge did this. It’s clearly unconstitutional (the limits on worship).

I think we all know that the Founding Fathers would have supported scrapping the first Amendment if there’s a novel virus.

Sam Brownback is the reason we have a D in Topeka now. Anybody that was associated with him in the state was radioactive. Jeff Colyer, Brownback's replacement after he took the International Ambassador for Religious Freedom position, lost in the primary to Kris Kobach. Kobach's campaign was almost cartoonish. So we got Kelly. Laura Kelly is doing her best to become radioactive now. We've got 3 more years to find out how much she'll glow.
Kansas has elected some morons over the years. Sebelius was in the middle of her 2nd term when Obama called her up to the bigs.

There are still limits allowed by this federal judge, such as social distancing and not using collection plates.
The limits refer to the maximum number of worshipers who weren't preachers or choir members (10), which the federal judge found as arbitrarily singling out religious services, when compared to other allowable, essential activities in Kansas.
Do not mistake this as an initial ruling allowing unfettered worship services in Kansas.

Never heard of Ramadan? Is that some kind of poison?

Depending on your view of Islam, it could be.
The Islamic calendar is 13 months, so Ramadan happens any time between April and August depending on the year.

Wow! I was thinking of the food that I see people buy and thought that was what it was. Fasting is what it is!

During Ramadan, "the gates of hell are sealed" so if you die during Ramadan, your soul goes to heaven.
Open season for martyring.

I for sure don’t see Kentucky and Kansas with blue governors next election cycle.

Apt summary.

Sounds like a “least restrictive means” finding

lulz
You previously assured us that politicians were well within their scope if they ignored the first amendment via a quickly penned proclamation

Sounds just like Louisiana with Piyush Jindal. He and anybody associated with him are toxic to the core. So we now have Governor Honor Code instead.
