I've been looking at putting a barn/shop up. I was originally looking at a Wooden Framed Pole Barn(Not Mallet) but recently I've seen these versatube style metal buildings and they seem to be about 60% less expensive. They're basically prefabbed 2.5" Galvanized square tubing framed with a sheet metal shell. They're also wind rated up to 150 with a PE Stamp. Seems like a decent option. Anyone have any experience with them what am I missing, why don't we see more of these around?

The building will be used for basic shop garage type storage. ATV, Tractor, boat, etc.
I don't plan on using any overhead rigging/winches with pole barn or square tubing so that concern is out.

Here is a link to one of the types I'm looking at.

I don't have any experience with them, but I would love to have this one.

I looked at some that were similar and I think it would be fine for a small shop, that doesn't have a very tall/wide profile, but a pretty big building with that same type of structure, seems like it would be kind of weak. I would want to have some heavier columns, to have everything tied to.

Just put a mallet pole barn up. 40x40 inside. 12’ overhang in the back and 25’ on the front. 14’ eave

I’ve heard some people had bad experiences with them but they did everything when they said for me.

So basically a Carolina/Eagle carport but there closed in.

I’ve had zero problems with my Carolina carport that is 40’ long and 20’ wide.

I have a Carolina carport 20x35 w/ 11' walls. I recently added a 20x10 overhang on the side. No issues in the last 2 years with the building

It has a 140mph wind rating but since adding spray insulation I'd bet it could take more.

Building, slab, patio, spray insulation and electrical I'm in it for at least $8k less than mallet and reeds quoted me w/o the patio and electrical

I’m looking at one myself, carportdepot.com has a 3D design tool, for a 24x30 shop with a 10x8 roll up door, walk in door, 6 windows, a 20’ gable extension and a 12x50 lean too with a 12x20 storage on it and another 6x8 roll up door, 12 gauge tin and 140mph rating is 16k not including slab. That’s with vertical roofing and horizontally ram siding. If you do vertical siding it jumps about 1300 bucks... go check them out

In total the structure would be 36x50

I'm having a shop built, and I looked into some of those galvanized framed buildings. But once I have a slab poured, and buy the kit and pay someone to build it, I'd only save about 15% or so and they dont seem nearly as stable. I decided to go with a pole barn. I'm having a 24x30x10 pole barn with one roll up door, one walk through door, and two windows built. The cost includes fully insulated, two loads of sand, and slab. Itll be 16k.

I had Wilson construction put up a pole barn at my place. 36x60x16 main building with 15x60 lean to on each side. Have a 14x14 sliding door on each end. Cost $31k and plan to cement the inside soon to lock in the building even more.
