Sorry if this sounds ignorant, but can someone explain to me the details of the mormon mission he plans to go on? I am not sure when he is required to do it and how long it will last. Will he even count against this class?
Thanks for all the help

I do know that he counts against this class. I'm not exactly sure of the other details.

I don't know the specifics of his mission, but typically missions are two years. I think they generally go when they are 19, which means he would go after his freshman year, and if so he would count. His eligibility clock would stop for the duration of his mission. Assuming the above, then he would have 4 yrs to play on return.

I have no idea. Just tried to answer the question on the assumption the questioner knew what he was talking about.

For Su'a Filo, who is of the Mormon faith, his recruitment might very well come down to where he feels most comfortable with his lifestyle and desire to take a two year mission during college.
this kind of answered it for me

John Martinez(the other stud Utah OL) isn't a Mormon. Xavier is.

One of the reasons that BYU has had such good offensive linemen over the years is because most of them are two years older and have a chance to mature more physically and become monsters in the trenches. This would be a big advantage if we sign him for that reason.

If he commits and goes on his mission, two years later can he decide to go somewhere else or does he have to attend LSU? Is it sort of like Benton's situation where he committed signed but had to got to VMA and sign again.

pretty sure he can go elsewhere. Ben Olsen at Ucla committed to BYU went on his mission then enrolled at Ucla. He sucks either way.

Well it's possible that this is a loophole, but since his eligibility clock is suspended while on his mission, I assume the clock for transfering is too. In other words, he could transfer like anyone else but would have to sit out a year. I'm not going to research this one, so I could be wrong and it could be a loophole around transfer rules.
