Who was alive during the Manson family murders?

I recently watched “Once Upon a Time In Hollywood,” and did some research into the murders.
What was the public reaction to the murders? How did things change after? What was your personal reaction/family’s reaction?
Personally, this would’ve scared the frick out of me.

I was alive, but I was too young to remember.

I was, but I was 6... Don’t remember...
I remember watching footage of Woodstock on the news though, I remember taking the uniform off my GI Joe and telling my mother he’s going to the concert...

I was. It was a huge story during a time of many big stories. It was a level of senseless, random violence that was completely new. Add to it the cult weirdness of the Manson family, Charlie himself, and the fact that several of the girls were good-lookers. Prime headline stuff.

Read Helter Skelter, you’ll realize how fricked up Manson was...

I was 8. The moon landing, Manson murders and Woodstock all happened within a month of each other.

Too soon. Well not really I guess.

I was young but what I remember most is the movie Helter Skelter. It was shown on network TV and it kind of freaked us all out as kids. And back then, network TV simply meant one of 4 channels. 3, 6, 7 or 12. and 13 but that was PBS. That's all we had

I was going into my senior year. The murder was a shocking headline, August. Nobody knew what was going on. This murders weren't the first big shock for me and I think everbody. Those were the Speck murder of the nurses in Chicago and Whitman in Texas. You can't make sense of these things.
The arrest and revelation of the Manson clan didn't occur until November (I think). The bizarreness of this clan of murderous hippie dropouts just added to the confusion and the sensation. I thing the trial must have lasted about a year.
There have been tons of things published about this, the most famous being Helter Skelter by the prosecutor. It's still a big money maker and still a big mystery as to were does ones mind have to be to do something like that.

Go watch the YouTube videos of the 60 minutes interview of him in prison.
You will understand how this guy convinced others to do crazy shite. It’s a really interesting set of videos

I heard about it and it sounded horrible. It was only when I read the book Helter Skelter that I realized just how warped some groups of humans could become.
That got me to reading Jerzy Kosinski who was almost murdered there that night. Most of his novels were based on his life and it was, also, a different kind of living.

I think I've read everything there is to read about it. It's just mind boggling how one man can convince so many others to do shite like that.
