Pontchartrain Beach Sky Ride

Check in if you ever rode this bad boy. It seems really tame against some of the amusement park rides I’ve ridden since, but 10 year old High C was a terrified bundle of hyperventilation when he got his feet back on the ground.

I rode that death trap way too many times.

I did not. But I did ride the worlds fair gondola

The Pontchartrain Beach clown is a thing of nightmares.

If you ever fingerblasted a girl from Slidell you are immune from the coronavirus.

I never knew Pontchartrain had a ski lift.

I rode that, too. Didn’t come close to scaring me the way the Sky Ride did.

I was literally the last person to leave Pontchartrain Beach the night it closed permanently.
edit to add story: My friend's dad had something to do with the group that bought the land or were supposed to develop condos thee I forget exactly. There was even a model of the new condos in the room where we had food/drinks, etc. After it closed my friend and I were walking around the place mostly dark but some lights here and there. Walking inside the haunted house was eerie. After his parents finished partying or whatever they were doing, the dad was tasked with locking the gate with chain/padlock. As we all stepped out of the gate I intentionally slacked off so I would be the last person to step through. Thats my claim to fame I guess.

I thought the West Bank part of the World's Fair was cool. Never been able to find pictures, but I remember there being bumper boats.

I didn't know that even existed! Pretty cool history of Pontchartrain:

Crazy how we’ve built a fear of clowns. Have a buddy who is one of 6 remaining Ronald McDonalds, which is down from 30+ just over the past couple years. Clowns are no longer fun and scare people now.

Wild Maus
It used to be my favorite ride. Where is this Fun Fair Park? Is it still open? Is the Wild Maus still there?

Back in '75 my parents made my 18 year old eldest brother take my older brother (who was turning 15)and two friends to Pontchartrain Beach for his birthday.
I was able to tag along and hung out with my big brother. We were riding on the Sky Ride and it conked out for about an hour during the middle of the ride. I thought it was cool as shite being that far above the crowd for that long. My bro didn't care for it that much.
Later, we were riding on the Galaxy ride behind two ladies. When we hit the first big drop off, the wig on one of the ladies flew off her head, revealing those tissue paper curler ladies used to use back then. She was mortified for the whole ride and I thought it was funny as heck. My brother had caught her wig in mid air when it flew off.
I have never seen happier person than when my brother handed her the wig that he had caught.

It was toned down a little over the years but the print versions were Stephen Kingish.
At The Beach, at The Beach, at Pontchartrain Beach...

Pretty sure I was forced to ride that thing as a kid at the '84 WF. Scared me shitless. Pretty sure it stopped when we were right over the river, too.
