It's the most famous address y'all will ever have ! I was there in 1967 -69 and had a ball. Yeah, it was hot and the bathrooms were funky but look where you lived on Saturday afternoons ? We used to take the girls from 'Box Canyon' up there for some R & R before the games, they didn't care if we had A/C or not. With 20,000 fans milling around outside the whole day, WTF ! It was memories to die for ! One phone per floor ? Yeah, and with the foreign students living there, it always rang at 3 AM to frick up a good nite's sleep. If you went in there as a wus, you came out a tough SOB with the total lack of amenities. I look back on those days of getting a 7 oz. pony of Dixie beer from the LSU Union vending machine (that's right ) and walking to a night lab class. Beer was served in the student union ? People can't believe we had so much freedom at LSU. I'll never cut down those dorms. Comfy, hell no ! But good times ? Every day ! North Stadium Rules ,amigos

My dad stayed in there in 1960. Ever since I was a kid, every time we walked near there on game days he would always point out which dorm was his. A kid always thinks his dad is superman, the coolest, etc. But as a kid who loved LSU, and to have a dad that freaking LIVED in the stadium? He walked on water in my book, still does. I understand your pride buckhead.

It is my understanding that the dorms can never be touched, either to tear down or make into hotel rooms, because of asbestos. There are tons of it used as insulation around the old dorm rooms and the cost of remediation is prohibitive.

If you wonder why LSU has never taken advantage of what would be very expensive hotel suites, that's why.

Coolest dorms on campus back in the 80s when I was there too. When did they close them down? They were still cranking when I was there. The bathrooms..OMG. Yep. You'll grow some thick skin pretty fast.

I lived in the Rock in spring of 77 on the west side, private room, former 3 man room. Under the new upper deck. Never really got hot, if you had a floor fan in the window. Parked my VW bug in the lot right under my third floor window. We had tee shirts made up art work and all " Living in the Rock" It was great. Lamabe (spelling) was baseball coach team average at best. You could go in the second inning and find a seat behind home plate.

My Dad lived in the North Stadium dorms back in the mid 50's. He always had fond memmories of his time there...but would say with a smile on his face that it sucked.

He told me what room he stayed in and I snuck in there to see it one day when I was there in school. It was dark and cramped...no one would live there now if they had any other choice.

Initially I said my dad lived there in 1960, but after talking to him today he corrected me. It was 62-63. He lived on the 2nd floor, just to left of the student gate, in the curve. His room was a 3 man room and it was actually quite spacious. One of his funny stories about the dorm is that one of his roommates, a guy from Pennsylvania, NEVER went to a game. He would sit in the dorm on Saturday nights while there was a football game being played right outside his door. I have always found this to be the most unbelieveable thing I've ever heard.

In 68-69, my best friend lived in the North dorms...I would sleep on the floor after a hard night of drinking....to be woken up by the damn air hammers from the pile drivers when they were building the P-Mac.....really tough when you got a huge hang-over...

I have always wondered why they haven't turned the dorms into hotel rooms. Couldn't someone have a fund raiser similar to the one for Mike's cage to help cover some of the remediation costs? I can think of quite a few people who would pay to sleep in Tiger Stadium the night before a game. If I had the money, that seems like it would be a great investment with returns for years to come.

If they would turn these into leased (or sold) pre-game suites for fans, the university could afford to fix them up while reinforcing Tiger Stadium. How great would it be to have access to one of these before games? I'll take one!

I lived in West Stadium freshman year (71-72) and I remember all the flying bugs everywhere. They would even be in the shower with you. Couldn't ask for more convenience, though, after a football game. Just walk up to the room while everyone was fighting the traffic.

This is something that has been talked about alot on here. Supposedly alot of ideas have been thrown around about what to do with them(hotel rooms, dorm rooms, pre and postgame suites) by LSU. But the bottom line is that when you look at the cost/reward of doing something, the sheer magnitude of it scares anyone away from actually ponying up the money to do it.

The asbestos is a big problem, but they have had a few people on here that were asbestos workers, that said it wouldn't be impossible to do it. There are alot of other factors that would go into building out the dorm rooms.

I went to LSU '67-71; lived in Graham 1 semester. Scammed my way outta there to the Summit Apts over on Highland. $135/month for 2BRs split 3 ways. Of course tuition was $160 semester. Another $100+/- for books. Maravich played in those days; I don't think they started work on the pmac til later. We saw him play in the cowbarn. All the athletic events were free with a student ID. Ah, the good ole days, before the $2200/month mortgage.

Yeah, the good old days when you HAD to live on campus as a freshman and HAD to buy the meal plan. Hatcher Cafe was awful. A friend cut his lip on stale bread. But yeah, the $160 tuition was sweet. Now you probably can't buy books for that.

The asbestsos makes any renovations cost prohibitive. TAF DOES have a campaign going right now to raise money to replace all the windows and make it look good again. Hopefully in the future, they will make some headway with asbestos removal.
