Better than Yoo-hoo, that's for sure.

At the Sunbeam bread store by Cotherns tire in Central. They had raised wood floors and I could usually drink 2 before my maw maw was done with her grocery shopping.

I remember those when they came in a returnable longneck and cost a quarter in the machine at the barbershop.

Yoo-Hoo and chocolate soldier is the same product. They are just cooked at different time lengths. They used to be produced in Opelousas years back and my Dad was plant manger there for a long time. He hired me for a temp summer job one summer in high school to do the grunt maintenance work. I used to love smells of the mixing room.

Wasn't there another chocolate drink back in the day that only had a single word for a name?
I'm remembering the name being written diagonally.

I haven't seen a Chocolate Soldier in forever. I used to love them. I drank a Yoo Hoo about a year ago and enjoyed the heck out of it. I just don't drink stuff like that anymore.

My dad was raised in Opelousas and never knew this. Pretty cool! That poor town is in shambles now.

A chocolate soldier and cracklins was my standard “to go” food when I was little. Good stuff

It was one of my favorites as a kid. I remember popping the top and they had a cork lining on the inside of the cap.
