Fight with Ex last night over a Trump—where did this “He’s a racist” myth come from?

Brief background:
—divorced, kids live ex
—haven’t seen them in 17 days now due to this damn virus
—My parents don’t “love” Trump, but like him and are hard-core conservatives
—My Dad, like most on here, has been trained by Fox News to think liberals are evil
—I voted for Trump, absolutely will so again, but don’t vote R in every single election
—I vote for who I think is most competent to the job—it’s almost always been Republican
—No matter who is in office, I believe a certain respect and reverence is due to whomever is POTUS and I want to teach my kids not only that, but to think for themselves, and not be sheep
—Wife is a sheep as she only gets her news from CNN and Facebook, mainly the latter
—son has been indoctrinated to hate Trump

So, I’m talking to my 11-year-old son last night (and it’s always on speaker so the ex can hear and butt in). We were talking about the virus and he says he hates Trump, it’s all his fault, and he’s ready for a new President. I told him the virus is China’s fault, but asked why he hated Trump. He says he just does. I say, “Hey, you can hate Trump or whomever you want, but you need to be able to express your reasoning. Not just for this, but for any strong opinion you may have. You need to explain why you have that opinion.”

Good parenting, I thought. I hear the ex in the background talking some kind of shite. I ask her to to speak up. She refuses, just keeps talking shite in the background. Finally, she comes to hearing distance and I hear she is dogging Trump. No big deal, she’s never liked him, and there are certainly personality reasons to justify it, but she’s not politically informed or not to go into policies or the like. She goes on:

“Trump raped 3 women.” “What?! Who? When?” No retort. “And he’s so racist.” “What? African-Americans have the lowest unemployment rate in U.S. history under Trump.” Again, no retort. I asked if she would honestly rather Biden win? She says yes. He’s being really smart staying under the radar while Trump makes a fool of himself. Dumbfounded, I asked her if she was aware Biden has lost his marbles and can’t string together 2-3 coherent sentences and likely has dementia.

She turned it back into Trump being racist. Says she’s embarrassed for our state because we’re all racists, and that’s literally the only reason anybody would ever vote for Trump. I pointed out that not only does Louisiana have a 2-term Democrat in office, but Trump won the NATIONAL election. She says yeah, half the country is racist. At this point, I’m getting pissed because she is subliminally indoctrinating my children (likely unintentionally) that my parents—and now me—are super racists. She says Trump only won because people didn’t want another black person as President. I lost my shite. “Hillary Clinton was white as shite you fricking idiot! So is Biden!” She tried to say something else, but I shut her down with “I’m sorry, you’re not intelligent enough to continue this conversation. But how bout next time I talk to my kids, let’s lose the speaker phone, k? Not trying to talk to you when I talk to them.”


Sorry for the novel, but I’m still pretty pissed. Now, my kids have seen me interact with tons of people of all races, so I know they don’t think I’m racist. But it pisses me off that they’re being taught (again, likely unintentionally) that my folks are a bunch of redneck racists. They’re not gonna be around forever, and I don’t want that to be how they remember me. But beyond that, I want to teach my kids to think for themselves, get their news from more than 1 source, and be able to effectively communicate their opinions.

But back to subject title—where did this myth that Trump is a racist come from? Is it just the wall? And who are these 3 women he allegedly raped? What the frick is going on on Facebook? I, personally, do not engage.
