Unemployment change

Tell me if I'm understanding this correctly.
When you file for unemployment you get somewhere between 200-550 from the state and now an extra 600 from the feds each week for 4 months?
To make the math easy let's say you get 400 from the state and 600 from feds. 1,000 dollars. That's 25 dollars an HOUR to sit on your arse. How much taxes are going to be taken out of that 1,000 dollars every week?
Taking 30% that's still 700 bucks a week.
Is it even worth holding a full time job if you aren't making over 50k a year? Why would you do any menial job if 4 months out of the year you can make ~25 an hour?

They are going to send checks out to people who didn’t lose their jobs too. It’s all in an effort to get the economy going and not just to provide relief.

I imagine you'll be cut off the second your employer calls you to come back to work, and you say "no".

Yep. Looks like socialism is here. This is awful.

I didn't see a time limit on this. Like I said correct me if I'm misunderstanding. Is there a time limit when will this go back to how it was before?

Well that's what a few Republican Senators were arguing yesterday that they should be a cap on the $600 so it doesn't go over the normal pay. But nobody was gonna fight for it. So yea 4 months of making more money then you would normally. Maybe it will boost the economy more.
Of course if the job opens back up before the 4 months is up and you don't go back you risk losing the job to someone else I guess.

You won’t get the full amount, it’s up to 600 dollars depending on how much you make

Have a feeling that wont happen in my industry should I get laid off. It's kind if inevitable at this point with oil prices not expected to come back to 30$
So I will use it until I can find a new career if it gets to that point

In Louisiana, 10% is withheld. The people that get more than they make going to work more than likely will be dealing with a reduction in hours when we start coming back so I think it will balance out in the long run.

ETA. Those payments are weekly? I thought they were monthly...

As much as it galls me, it's for up to 4 months (I don't believe they have dispensed with the requirements to be actively looking for work).

In 2015 I was on it for 3 weeks. I had to go to the la state unemployment site and fill out my hours worked (if any) and then apply to 3 jobs on their site.

but if you enroll in a school they stop the unemployment.
but you can do free tutorials on internet for computer programming languages.
python is being offered free by a couple of bigtime companies.
combine with sql and you are a more atractive candidate in an office.
sql is The database language. a zillion places use it at least a little.
that and understand basic accounting.
thats the typical office.

When I did it, I laughed....because the jobs they had listed did not want to talk to a degreed ChE. The people at the agency were also baffled, but why would any company hire someone for a significantly lower position knowing that the first step up would cause them to lose their employee.

Yes it's worth it, because this is only a temporary handout. People want to work right now, but they can't due to the govt restricting them. Anyone who decides 4 months of UE is better than a lifetime of gainful employment is stupid, and really those people aren't the ones who have been working up until this point.
The purpose of 4 months is because this won't be a quick fix. Many businesses will require some time to reestablish, so they won't be able to rehire all employees immediately. This time frame allows a transition period.
The outrage over this bill is weird. Monday every one of you were throwing fits that the Dems blocked this bill. Today you are outraged that it was passed. Did you really expect a perfect bill to come of this? Is that even possible?
This is a very unique time, and this is not a permanent handout. This is the govt fixing a problem it caused, which it has a duty to do.

No shite. Their site was lacking to say the least. They didnt have any jobs that would pay more than unemployment. Lol

They are waived right now.

They've waived the first week's waiting period, too. And there has been some talk of extending the State's 26 weeks to an unspecified amount at this time. But La. is one of only 4 states that takes a percentage cut of unemployment benefits if a person is receiving SS benefits, to the extent most would get zero in benefits. And there are 1000's who have retired & then gone back into the work force.
