In another surprising move from The Walt Disney Company, which continues to alter its movie strategy in light of the coronavirus outbreak, movie lovers in the U.S. will be able to purchase the animated Onward digitally and through Movies Anywhere for $19.99 on the night of Friday, March 20 starting 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET. (Psst! That's tonight.) In addition, the movie will also arrive on the Disney+ streaming platform on April 3 (also in the U.S.).

I've been wanting to see this one. Probably gonna wait for Disney+ unless the kids get really antsy.

Wonder what they will do with Mulan. Although they will probably just push back the release.

Is Mushu really not in it? I saw a dragon flying in the preview

I think we can all appreciate that Mushu is irreplaceable.

It’s a great point. They could have brought back Eddie Murphy, but his Mushu wouldn’t have really fit with the tone the new Mulan is going for. And if he voiced a less comedic Mushu, well then it wouldn’t really be the same character. So what’s the point?

There was no way I was going to see this in the theaters, but I wanted to see it.

This weekend will be fun.

Will the corona virus finally get Hollywood to go direct to home release? I have always thought I would rather drop $30-40 to view a new release at home. Would be cheaper than taking my family of 5 to the theater anyway.

We saw it opening weekend and I thought it was really good. My boy loved it, my little girl not so much. Pretty awesome that Disney is early releasing this, if I have to watch frozen 2 again I’m going to lose it.

Who knows. Maybe it’ll get theaters to drop prices after a few weeks. I’d take my three kids to a lot of movies if it was 25 bucks instead of 60 on the third or fourth week.

It’s really good. My allergies were killing me and needed some Kleenex for my watering eyes....

They aren't doing this out of the kindness of their hearts. Studios have to figure out how to maximize revenue while movie goers aren't buying nearly as many tickets as usual.

It was awesome but the flopped the ending by not having the guy meet his dad.

Totally unsatisfying

People must be cancelling Disney + for them to be doing this type of thing. Many people are taking a hard look at their budgets.

Movie theaters are just as packed as always, people are just buying less tickets due to rewards programs and movie club programs like Regal Plus and A-List.

Since Disney has become ridiculous with their demands for their big releases (up to 80% of the box office cut for the first 2-4 weeks of release), theaters give less of a shite about people actually paying for tickets and want more asses in seats to buy drinks and popcorn where the margins are INSANE.
