Tennessee has no state income tax on a paycheck no matter how much you make.

That 2% it is showing is only on interest and dividend income.

Why is the tax system set up that way for athletes? If my employer sends me to eight different states to perform work, I don’t have to file in all of those locations.

Then you don’t make enough to have to or you don’t work there long enough. I had to file in 6 states a few years ago

He still plays 8 games/yr in Florida vs. 8-10 games per yr in Mass. That's still a saving of millions.

How much do you think state income taxes are exactly? It’s 5.05% in MA, which means he’s saving about 2.5% by living in Florida because half of his games will be in states other than FL unless they play Miami or Jacksonville. For a savings of “millions” he would have to sign a contract with about $80 million, which isn’t going to happen.

Y’all really gotta figure out how these state taxes work for sports

In 2019, he played 2 games in states without state income tax.

In 2020, he'll play at least 8.

Depends on the state, have you ever worked in New Mexico? They require your employer to pay them the state withholding for any time you work within the state. And they are very aggressive about pursuing that. Your employer may try and skirt that with them but that could end up biting them in the butt. Many states have a minimum dollar value which athletes will always meet but you may not.

Brady gonna see that first game check and say, "I should have done this 10 years ago."

Yeah, I’m sure he really regrets his life decisions.

Not directed at you personally. This thread lacks an appreciation for the value of money. The more you make the more you want to make. It’s never enough. No one ever thinks I make enough money. Also, I don’t care how much you make, 10k is something anyone would care about saving if they could much less 1 million in taxes. Thirdly, Brady no doubt is making this move over money. So to act like Brady doesn’t care about money, has enough money, or is unconcerned about money is ridiculous. Finally, other than records, earnings is a measure of worth. Brady has been under valued by the Pats. He wants to be valued more highly by his team. It is about money, it’s all about the money.
