I went to a "COVID-19 testing center" today. We're fricked.

I went to a "COVID19 center" today to be tested as I am symptomatic and work in healthcare and do not want to expose patients to the virus if I have it.
We were told by front desk, clinic manager, and providers that:
Apparently these "COVID19 centers" will only test you if you are a medical provider with a confirmed exposure to someone that has tested positive to COVID19, are immunocompromised, pregnant, or have cancer. I was told this was per current CDC guidelines.
You must meet one of the above criteria and have either shortness of breath or cough and fever. NO EXCEPTIONS.
So basically 99% of people cannot get tested at this places right now even if they have COVID19 and will pass it to many that they will come in contact with.
At this point COVID19 centers are where sick people go to not get tested and infect others. Many were very coughing a lung up and having to use their inhalers repeatedly.
We were given masks at soon as we entered. I had brought my own mask just in case. The problem is that there were a lot of very sick people that I saw were not offered testing walked out the door and tossed the mask on the ground in the parking lot and drove away. I bet most of these people assume they are fine and don't even consider keeping away from other people as soon as they are told they don't meet the criteria.
You're likely only going to get tested if you go to ER with these severe symptoms and meet criteria or are sick enough to possibly require hospitalization.
We aren't testing people at all compared to almost all other major developed countries.
We can all thank the wonderful CDC for these guidelines and instead of using the test EVERY OTHER COUNTRY is using. They had to go make their own which was a total failure and now we are sending out the newer version of the test and playing catch up.
The current numbers of infections reported CANNOT BE ACCURATE. Those numbers are almost exclusively coming from severe cases in the ER including hospitalized patients. This info coming from multiple physicians and other providers I know who are working in ER, on inpatient hospital units, and ICU.
Hopefully somehow every expert in infectious disease and epidemiology is wrong otherwise we are fricked.
Our government is so incompetent, what a failure.
P.S. of course there a bunch of frickhead parents bringing little kids into the lobby and letting them run around, scream, and play on the floor. They will 100% get infected and give it others.

What state are you in and if Louisiana what part?
Posted on 3/15/20 at 8:45 pm to phonyscandals
None of this happened.

What difference does a test make? There's no cure. Go home and take care of yourself.
We're incompetent because testing doesn't really exist? Get a grip. The government is incompetent for many other reasons.

I understand not being afraid of Corona but I haven’t seen one person around me do shite to protect themselves or others. There needs to be a grey area between not caring and being a chicken little.

But didn’t ask for a test from your employer?

The media and everyone seems to love assumptions.
Don’t worry about testing just be super conservative and just start self-quarantining yourself.

Continued nice work. Your alarmism and hyperbole are truly appreciated.

there's a 99% survival rate and 98% of testing is coming back negative. how exactly are we fricked?

I'd say fricked is 80M infected, 800k dead...
Are you taking the over or under?

I don’t understand this testing hysteria. The tests have been inaccurate and there is nothing you can do for a virus. If you feel sick, stay the frick home.

You were supposed to hit the red button on the top right.

Yeah I don’t get this either. Stay home with supportive care. There’s no acute treatment for viral illnesses in general . Statistically most people will recover spontaneously especially if you are young and healthy. If he began having respiratory distress or other symptoms, then obviously he would need a more formal assessment.
If you went to the testing center and tested positive for Covid they would likely just have him self isolate and follow the same precautions above with the same criteria for notifying if he’s in respiratory distress.
The test in actuality only provides a false sense of security. Ironically, the only benefit of getting tested is that it may balance out the skewed statistics that the media keeps pushing down our throat’s as a healthy part of the denominator who resolves on their own. He may have actually exposed himself to more risk by going to a crowded center with potentially sick people.

Government is inefficient and corrupt.
What’s new?

Phony indeed! As a "mediçal professional" you seem to not be up to date on the standard process.

The general advice is the same nationwide: Call ahead to your doctor or a health care facility if you are concerned you may need to be tested. Based on your symptoms and exposure, they will decide if you need to be evaluated in person and may confer with state authorities about where and how to do the testing. They will give you instructions on how to arrive in a way that limits exposure. Medical facilities and doctors offices ask that everyone call ahead so they can make arrangements to protect others when people come in for testing.
