Question for old tool nerds.

Bought a coffin plane with a convex bottom. The stamps on the iron look OLD, as well as the plane body.
"E.M" is on the plane body. It is more of a proof mark looking stamp than just an initial. The maker of the blade/iron is Weldon.

There are millions of these things. smooth that bottom out, sharpen the blade, rub it down with some oil, then put it in a drawer and pull out a Woodriver or Lie-Nielson 4 1/2 and get some work done!
That sounded really snobby, I just don't love the adjustability on those type planes.

Its going to be close to impossible to identify a maker and a date if its not stamped on the body. EM could be anyone really. People frequently made their own planes.
For what its worth, I love wooden planes for the ease of use and surface they leave. Its almost burnished. The issue I have is that my shop is not climate controlled and the body would move over time due to Louisiana humidity. I would have to frequently flatten it which slowly opens the mouth. Thats why mine are mostly show pieces and I use LN and old stanleys.

Facebook has a few groups that could help you. One that comes to mind is “unplugged woodworkers”. Those guys are more collectors than actual woodworkers.
