2009 H1N1 Swine Flu Pandemic:

quote:

In the spring of 2009, a novel influenza A (H1N1) virus emerged. It was detected first in the United States and spread quickly across the United States and the world.

From April 12, 2009 to April 10, 2010, CDC estimated there were 60.8 million cases (range: 43.3-89.3 million), 274,304 hospitalizations (range: 195,086-402,719), and 12,469 deaths (range: 8868-18,306) in the United States due to the (H1N1) pdm09 virus.

Additionally, CDC estimated that 151,700-575,400 people worldwide died from (H1N1) pdm09 virus infection during the first year the virus circulated.** Globally, 80 percent of (H1N1)pdm09 virus-related deaths were estimated to have occurred in people younger than 65 years of age. This differs greatly from typical seasonal influenza epidemics, during which about 70 percent to 90 percent of deaths are estimated to occur in people 65 years and older.

I don't seem to remember any major event cancellations or a panic-driven news cycle.

Don’t bring facts into the discussion. You can’t compare this to any other event in history. This is terrible we will all catch it. Save yourself.

Blah blah blah.

So you just want to see if this coronavirus will blow these numbers out the water?

That was handled during the Obama administration. It's racist to point out that Democrats are incompetent you nazi.

I was a senior in HS in 2009 and our senior trip was a cruise to Mexico.

The cruise line upgraded the cruise from Cancun and Cozumel to Jamaica, The Caymans and Bahamas.

Interesting what precautions the Obama administration advised. According to the acting director of the CDC (said at a press conference with Secretary Napolitano):

quote:

He advised Americans to wash their hands frequently, to cover coughs and sneezes and to stay home if they felt ill; but he stopped short of advice now given in Mexico to wear masks and not kiss or touch anyone. He praised decisions to close individual schools in New York and Texas but did not call for more widespread closings.

I don't want the coronavirus but I wouldn't say no to one of those 14 day self quarantines.

By your own data, the fatality rate was .02%. The coronovirus fatality rate is many times that by even the most optimistic calculations.

That's over a year. So about 750 a day, nationwide.
