Who's done this? Looking for something more dog proof when the carpet and hardwood we have in the rest of the house. Any tips? How did you choose what thickness to use? Or should I just get the thickest I can get?

Check out Flooret if you want the thickest wear layer. I'm thinking pretty strongly about using it in our build.

I get a sample of the vinyl plank I am considering and see how easy it is to scratch with my pocket knife. The darker the color the more the scratches in the wear layer show.

I have Vinyl Plank in my house and I really like it, it's very durable, looks great and easy to clean. You do have to put a layer of thinset before you lay it down.

I pulled carpet and laid peel and stick throughout. Needed floor patch compound in some spots and used 3M spray adhesive for extra stick. Just need to make sure to scrape up noticeable debris (concrete, caulk) from build because it’ll show through if you don’t. Keep some extra for inevitable replacements (furniture drags, chipped corners). I don’t regret it. Just make sure your slab is clean and it’s a breeze.

I got it and it is probably the smartest thing I did when building the house. Much quieter than laminate and don't worry at all about spills or moisture, which is huge when you have a big dog and 2 toddlers.

Important feature is not overall thickness, but the thickness of the wear layer.
Go for greater than 10 mils, greater than 20 mils, if possible
