Yes spring assisted and autos are legal in Louisiana. Other than the novelty of having an out the front auto I have found no use for them. In my opinion spring assist opening is simply a cheap way to make a flipper. A well made non assisted flipper with a proper detent is far superior.

Pretty much why I carry a Benchmade Axis-lock folder. No slower than an auto and much easier to one-hand close. SOG's Arc-lock Pentagon folder was about the only knife I've owned that was smoother.
