That was pretty much expected when Bo was brought in and immediately announced a switch to 4-3.

I'm not going to pretend that I know what the landscape of interior D-linemen looks like across the country but it's hard to imagine there will be a more stout anchor for a goal-line stand than the combination of Shelvin and Ika.

Our linebackers have to be so pumped right now...

Yeah, that really frees them up. Very few OLs are taking on Ika or Shelvin 1 on 1. They'll hit the gaps and completely clog the offense in the middle.

Here’s an SI article I posted a while back about some of the alignments Bo uses and how he has a “heavy 3-technique” in some run fits. LINK

this is one of the reasons i didn't get why people were melting over switching from a 3-4, b/c their argument was a single NT

with a 4-3, you can use 2 NTs

Not much speed in there though. Good run defense, but pass rush will lack severely in that package.

Sure. But in certain situations and against certain teams, having that kind of wall in the middle is great.

I bet more often than not only one of them is on the field.

our interior guys haven't been big pass rushers since Dorsey had 2 working knees

also shelvin can get into the backfield. last year he looked like our most talented interior DL since Dorsey

Yeah, if Shelvin and Ika collapse the pocket up the middle, it disrupts the rhythm and timing of the play and gets the QB off his spots and that is effective too.

With the number of spread offenses we'll play against, there will be a lot of 3-3-5 type situations where we'll have a lot of flexibility with two starting-caliber NTs (plus our Roy/Guillory).
