Air Conditioner Issue

Thermostat showed set temperature less than room temperature, on auto, and not kicking anything on. Checked outside unit/compressor, and nothing. Flipped all associated panel breakers off and on....nothing. Put thermostat to on and the blower kicks on, but nothing from the outside unit. I'm thinking it's maybe just a bad thermostat. It's not super old, but been there since we moved in. Fuses outside are good, I'm going to check the inside unit for any breakers or obvious issues now... With the thermostat and conditions so far is what's leading me to thinking it's the thermostat, but any similar experiences or help would be appreciated. Thanks.

based on your message, anything it might be is beyond the scope of repair for you.
1. prob not tstat
2. check fuses in compressor disconnect
3. water it as said above and when cool try again and see if:
a. you hear contactor pull down
b. you hear compressor start
c. if above happens, spin fan with long screwdriver, does it start?
in case i have misjudged you, do you have a meter to test contactor, fan and compressor caps, fuses?
If all of the above are good then you may have a low pressure cutoff. has it been icing up lately?

I only ask because that’s something I would do.

I thought I had decent English in my post. I checked fuses already. Also, no need to water if it's not running. Done the screwdriver thing last year, was a capacitor then...

I just had the exact same scenario and it was a broken wire. Quick fix for the AC man.

Do you have a good battery n the thermostat? I bet that’s it.

Didn't read the whole tread, but did you check the pan under the unit? If it's full/high the limit switch won't let it come on it cool. Good luck.

If your pan switch in attic hasn’t tripped out the compressor from a clogged pan drain pipe, next thing I’d look at is the contactor and the capacitor. Ants, spiders and bugs love to die in between the contacts, if your capacitor looks swollen on either end that might be it. Just make sure you pull the disconnect before doing any of that. And don’t touch the capacitor unless you know how to drain the juice out of it. Also if your fan on top isn’t running that will hold out the compressor as well.

If the drip pan drain gets clogged with algae, it has a float that stops the compressor from running. (on most units) you will see today. Make sure it is not stuck in the up position or the drain is not clogged with algae or a dead bird or rat. Probably not this but worth a look before you call out the cool air guy. Good luck.

Not full of water(edit...dry), contacted my normal ac dude and he figured it was probably the thermostat...but can anyone give more info on contactor? I can wire an entire house, minus the HVAC system, have multimeters galore...is this on the outside unit?

Is the capacitor swollen?

Contactor is in outside unit by capacitor.
YouTube will have something on it.
