Are the Saints ever going to build a new stadium? I remember plans to build before the katrina or at least benson had plans to build.

1. WHere would we build a new stadium? It is in the perfect location right now.
2. The whole thing was remodeled after Katrina
3. It is like the 6th largest NFL stadium and has lots of history

No plans to build a new stadium at this point. They have made upgrades and it is a great place to watch a game IMO.

Half of me can't understand why Lambeau doesn't need to be rebuilt but the Superdome "does".
Lambeau has metal bleachers with no chairbacks for like 55,000 of its seats. The "club seats" and "suites" are the worst seats in the stadium - at the very top.
The only thing "wrong" with the Superdome is that the suites are smushed too far back into the club level. The view from the suites sucks - it's like watching the game from the belly of a huge whale. But then again - if all the suites are leased I don't understand the problem. And the Club level is freaking PIMP now - it's as nice (or better) as the club levels in Seattle, Fed Ex Field, Lambeau, and the new Soldier. The view from the club seats is killer - the way it should be.
You always hear about the "bad sightlines" up in the terrace level, but what you don't hear is the view of 95% of the action from the terrace is far superior to the views from the upper levels of the new stadiums like Raymond James or Fed Ex Field, where the seats there are so far removed from the field that you need binoculars to see out that far. Sometimes when you sit in the Superdome Terrace, your view is obstructed for a part of one corner of the endzone closest to you. Big fricking deal. Get bigger jumbotrons and you're all set.
The other thing I can't get over is that in New Orleans, a football-only facility would get used no more than 15 times a year.
Another good point is that the Superdome is in the absolutely PERFECT location right now. If you move the Superdome you'd better damn well keep it within walking distance of the CBD and the French Quarter. The only REAL solution for locating a new stadium would be to knock the Dome down, have the Saints play at LSU for 3 seasons, and rebuild the new stadium right there in the same spot. This would solve another huge issue in that if you build an entirely new stadium, you'd not want to have the Superdome sitting there, dominating your skyline without the money to keep it up and maintain it. Anybody who's driven past the Astrodome lately knows how quickly a mostly unused facility becomes an eyesore. Luckily for Houston, the Astrodome isn't in a very prominent place.

that isn't the only "wrong" with it...the sight lines from the terrace and loge end zones suck...that is a problem.. how much of a problem is debatable, but it is still a problem
but the dome was built as a multi purpose facility and that is why it is like that..it serves that purpose beatifully

Okay, not much room to tailgate but if we moved the stadium away from downtown/FQ then the city can say goodbye to future superbowls.

i don't think so at all, especially with a new stadium... look at the new stadium in arlington
NO metro area is small enough where we could still be enticing for super bowls...as many as we were getting? no...but those times are long gone
and in my opinion the success of the stadium and the saints hinges more on regional support from sanits fans and not the occasional superbowl every 10+ years

I'd argue that the sightline from the terrace endzones are better than average - those seats are crappy in most stadiums (hence the reason why most "NEW" stadiums don't even HAVE upper endzone seats). And the lower endzone seats pretty much suck in every stadium as well. Why people would want to sit down there baffles me.
Also - if the Saints can sell those tickets for $20 and $50 on average, I don't see the problem to be honest. If they weren't selling I'd say you have a point.

Well another reason you don't want to move the stadium to Hammond (as an example) is that New Orleans needs the Saints tourism. It would be so cruel to the shopowners, hoteliers, and restauranteurs to have the stadium build more than 3 miles outside of downtown.
One final thought: It's not necessarily a BAD thing that the Superdome is the 5th oldest stadium. I think it's a testament to the brilliance of the architects, planners, etc. that the Superdome is still debatable as a legitimate NFL venue.

well, until the return after katrina, they really weren't selling
i don't think it is enough reason to build a new stadium, but it definitely sucks and the problem is...it isn't fixable like new jumbotrons or new turf

i think hammond is abit far, but NO east is definitely close enough to downtown

it might be the only thing that keeps the saints here.
the saints lose out on ALOT of regional support b/c of its location. i think theonly way they can achieve long term success is by becomingmore regional

Another question I have is - Why isn't the Superdome considered 'untouchable' like a Yankee Stadium, Wrigley Field, Lambeau Field, Soldier Field, etc.
The Superdome is the finest of the "Astro Turf" ere facilities, has hosted record-breaking events that are in the history books, and with Katrina it kind of has that gravitas as a legendary venue. People have DIED there. It's rebirth is almost a monument to the city overcoming Katrina.
I think the Superdome is timeless and every bit as important to our culture as Yankee Stadium and Fenway Park and Wrigley Field and Lambeau Field are to NY, BOS, CHI, and GB.
And I do realize that the 'untouchable' Yankee Stadium will be no more. I guess the sad thing is that even history can't always save you. I just hope in this case it can.

Yeah, New Orleans East would be a great location. Then the rumors about getting shot/stabbed/mugged outside the stadium would actually be true.

NO east is basically empty but my personal preference would be to build something closertoards baton rouge (la place ex)
building a revenue earning structure like the superdome could do wonders for that area

There is nothing like going to see the saints in the dome. I have been doing it since I was a kid with my dad and I love it. I have sat all over that building and have always had fun.
This year I was lucky enough to score season tickets in the club sec 249 with club access. Can't wait til the season gets here!!

having the stadium in la place would be horrible. we dont even need a new stadium anyways.

i don't think it is needed either...i just completely disagree that its current location is the best option
and why would la place be horrible?
first off, do you or do you not think the saints need more regional support (especially more state wide support) to ensure long term stability due to the struggling NO demographics?

the location of the dome turns ALOT of support away
the saints have been selling tickets like a SOB sicne they dropped prices to levels we haven't seen in YEARS before katrina...before they struggled every week almost having to get bailed out time and time again to prevent tv blackouts....and this was pre storm katrina economy
there are plenty of people who have moved out of NO (and alot of these people actually make more than the city average income) whonow live in mandeville, covington, bush, praireville, gonzaales, hammond, ponchatoula
they got out of NO for a reason...crime, schools, lack of education, simple attitude and lack of consideration of many of its citizens...take your pick
putting the stadium in la place(accessible by i-55 and i-10 from 2 directions) makes it more accesible from people around the state (and region) but yet is still close enough to support people who wanted to visit BR or NO or traveled from either location for the game
would it eliminate alot of the current fans from attending some games? yeah...absolutely, but i don't think that is a bad idea
