Superdome is antiquated, needs to be replaced badly, that idea they had awhile back when I still lived there, about a state of the art retractable arena by the riverwalk would have been a stroke of genius, would have revitalized the whole area, but just like most shite in NO it went by the waistside.

sounds great and looks great but in reality would do no real good to spend that much money to build a new stadium that would be worse on traffic 3 miles from the existing one

wayside...not waistside

I'm guessing you haven't been in the Dome since they freshened it up.

possibly, but seems like your biting off your nose to spite your face...i just can't see more of an advantage to building a new stadium that close

why? la place is 45 minutes from the cbd....ever been to a cowboys game?

that's nice on the inside man, but I'm talking overall, outside, inside, etc.

yeah I have been to a Cowboys game, AND THE MEDIA HATES IT, WAY TOO LONG A RIDE.
Posted on 7/9/08 at 12:39 pm to LSUfan4444
the NFL wants most stadiums brought to modern specifications, amenities, for huge money purposes.

it was such a bad location, they are building another stadium....this time in arlington
if you think la place is too far to ride for fans who live in NO, think about what it is like for people people who left to NO and have money to support the team who now live in Ms, Baton rouge, hammond, mandeville etc
sorry if i don't feel bad for the camera man from wdsu b/c he has to drive all the way downtown before agame

the superdome already has modern amenities...what exactly needs to be upgraded?

outside media that comes into town is what I'm talking about, the love the fact that everything is in close proximity, makes everything convenient , no delays, no bogdowns.
Hell everybody that has something major going on in NO, conventions, corporate functions, brags about how everthing is right where they need it.

NO is VERY unique inits proximity along with indianpolis
there could easily be more than enough appropriate accomodations built in that area and is closer to the airport for teamsand media traveling

yes...and for convetions itis a HUGE bonus...but for a 1 day agme it isn't that important
there is no reason people cannot stay in NO and shuttle to/from games with transportation provided by the hotel, cabs or rent a car like in other cities
the super bowl rotation has changed so much..the days of NO getting that many super bowls are LONG OVER
la place is 20 minutes from kenner and 45 minutes to downtown NO (being generous) and and hour from BR

putting the stadium in la place(accessible by i-55 and i-10 from 2 directions) makes it more accesible from people around the state (and region) but yet is still close enough to support people who wanted to visit BR or NO or traveled from either location for the game
There's a 30,000 person waiting list, and while the Saints going to the shitter could turn off bandwagoners, it would take a long time for that to happen. So you would move it from one of the best cities to have fun in on the planet to a town with absolutely nothing to do to make it easier for certain people who can't even go to games to go there.

quote:that may be true, but if a new stadium had been built you never know, like I said I think it could have been a shot in the arm for the economy, the Superdome in its time was beautiful, but the design to me is in need of a facelift, oh well who gives a shite, it's politics in NOLA as always anyway.

Imagine how awesome it would have been when the Tigers won the NCG, the crowd spilling out of the stadium into... Laplace. Then the awesome 45 minute shuttle ride (probably over an hour given the situation) to the Quarter. Except not nearly as many people are in the Quarter because the game is, you know, in Laplace.
And while no town will dominate SB hosting like NO and Miami did in the past (with SB hosting as an incentive to built new stadiums), NO could very well still host SB's more often than any other city. I think the biggest issue has been, by far, the Saints lack of longterm contract with the state. The NFL doesn't want to schedule a SB in NO only to have the Saints playing elsewhere by the time it happens.

b/c ticket prices are among cheapest tickets in the nfl
there has only been a waiting list since the ticket price decrease happened

i would bet a ticket increase to get the saints in the middle of the pack with ticket prices would immeditaely hault that waiting list
the ticket sales went up before the 2006 season, not after it...littlehad to do with actually winning. actualy attendance may have, but not season ticket sales

yes
move the game out of the city to promote more regional supprt for the team and keep weekend festivities in the city for those who want to travel here and those who live here

move the stadium to LaPlace and the days of getting ANY super bowl will be long over

yes bowl games with no bourbon street within walking distance suck arse
sincerely,
pasadena and the rose bowl

could? no. it isn't
and it is being proven every year location of stadium is no longer an important factor to the NFL

the other big issue is the abundance of new stadiums being built in the nfl with agreements made with thenfl that if they build these new stadiums, they would be rewarded a super bowl

what about cowboys stadium? how can you possibly say that having a stadium 40 minutes away from bourbon street would eliminate NO from super bowl contention?
even if it did....the saints won't stay in La b/c the state gets a super bowl every 10 years...quite frankly, i could give a flippity f*ck if we ever got a super bowl. i want long term assurance the team remains in the state
i haven't heard ANYONE in this thread feel confident that this team can survive long term unless they find a way to promote LARGE amount of regional support
