that may be true, but if a new stadium had been built you never know
oh, i agree...if the saints built anew stadium downtown they would get a super bowl....but i think they'd get one if they put a new stadium on the northsore or la place too
i just don't see the long term finacnial advantage to spending 600+ mill to build a football stadium only 3 miles from the current one

thousdands of fans a year stay in NO and travel to BR on saturday gamedays but you think it is outlandish to stay in NO and travel to la place?
what about people who stay in phoenix or scottsdale and travel to glendale?? what about the people who currently stay in metairie for saints games? what about people who stay in dallas and tavel to arlington? for years the giants have been playing in jersey...etc etc etc
this isn't a new concept

quote:I just don't agree with the idea, sounds good as far attracting fans from all parts of the region like your suggesting, but to me it is a nightmare for profitable and economical reasons, as well as transportation purposes. the stadium where it is, is a bonafide goldmine for obvious reasons, a regular cash cow, no need to change location, only modernize it.

why?
moving the stadium and making it more accessible and appealing to people with higher incomes who have moved out of NO (and now avoid the city for large events), or more appealing to people who generally just aren't high on NO for whatever reason could trend towards high ticket prices which could mean more income
look at this picture....the money ain't in NO
(and this is based off pre storm figures...it surely isn't any better now)
LINK
put the stadium closer to where the money is and in a place where the people with money are more prone to travel to
50% of the residents of orleans don't have a college degree and 50%% of them don't even have a high school diploma...how does moving the stadium out of that equal an economical nightmare?

transportation to/from baton rouge for LSU games is almost a non issue for thousands of fans a year who travel to baton rouge for games
in fact, most LSU fans here suggest staying in NO for people who come to the board looking for suggestions

it has been updated and has all necessary amenities neededd and even a few that aren't
what does it need that it doesn't have that cannot be added to the dome?

you are a moron, the location is perfect, how many other NFL stadiums can you walk right out the door and within minutes walk to the bars? after almost every game i walk to the quarter to have a few drinks. however, if i gotta drive 3 miles, then find parking, frick that i will be on my way back to BR

traffic sucks arse on 1-10 on gamedays

Folks from out of town will have alot more fun in NO than in BR. not to mention the lack of hotels in BR on game weekends.

I hate the superdome. A perfect location, and possibly the best, would be where the Iberville projects are now located. Now that would revitalize the city.

you are proving my point
where do the saints rank in ticket sales prices?
how stable is the long term future for the saints in relation to what city they'll be playing in?
how much do the answers to those questions rely on who supports the team (corporate and fand base wise)?
the future success of the saints doesn't hinge on keeping the fans who spend $20 a week for terrace seats then goes to the quarter for drinks afterwards

no worse than NO traffic on sunday mornings going to/from games
i am not saying moving the stadium location would alleviate traffic issues, i'm just saying transportation isn't a deal breaker....see all LSU games

and fans from out of state can still stay in NO...and travel a much shorter distance to the stadium...and if they chose stay in metairie or kenner and be much closer to the airport in cheaper hotels

that is my choice for a downtown location if we had to have one
right across rampart from the french quarter, but still doesn't address the glaring need for more support from outside NO

take a look around the nfl at how many teams play in one area, then the fans travel to another area for post game recreation
falcons, cowboys, redskins, cardinals all off the top of my head without even thinking hard
ETA- these are teams from very wealthy cities and have alot of corporate support..now,no way the saints cn ever compete with them there, but unless they find a way to get more support from local and regional business andbig money fans, their days in NO could be numbered

Since the Superdome has been sold out on season tickets recently, the fan support that the team longed for is obviously there. I would be saddened if we lose our team based on corporate support though. The Saints are the best thing going for New Orleans. It is a shame that there aren't enough businesses in the area. With that being said though, I dont expect to see them leave.

this has only been happening since the saints dropped their ticket prices....which ranks them 5th lowest in the nfl now
if the saints rise theit tickets prices just to average (16th in the nfl)...i promise season ticket sales wold decrease and the "waiting list" would cease to exist, BUT this isn't just about fans in the seats
look at the cardinals. you could shoot an arrow from one side of the stadium to the other and not ht anybody. the saints cannot generate the kind of income from corporate sponsorships that they can so they need even mroe support from local/regional business
those owners are leaving NO (and have left NO) and locating outside of the city. they also need to find a way to get support from more businesses from baton rouge, lafayette etc and support from a more wealthy fan base....as long as the saints remain a NO (exclusive) team, they will struggle BIG time to make that happen
the fans who currently attend these games cannot do so over the long haul (when ticket prices rise)

you're dead right....our politics have driven most of them away...now we need to recruit more. and since we can't get big ones, we need more smaller ones
Posted on 7/9/08 at 3:08 pm to XtremeTiger25
I think it has to be downtown and nowhere else. ticket prices did go up this year and there is still a substantial waiting list.

yeah, $3 a game for cheap seats
basically went up substantially for club tickets and such...and i can find club season tickets for face value with little effort...can't say the same about terrace
Posted on 7/9/08 at 3:17 pm to LSUfan4444
Not true - we are in the endzone in the middle level and our prices went way up.
Posted on 7/9/08 at 3:17 pm to LSUfan4444
this isn't a knock on the dome. i don't think the saints need a new one
IF they were going to get a new one, i just think building outside the city is a better option considering the dire financial problems this city is facing

we have 6 tickets so it's costing us $150 more a game this year.
