No, I'd hope he gets Theismann'd on the first play.

i agree with you, however, cincy needs a lot more than just a qb.

andy dalton has shown he's solid when they have some talent around him.

a ton of draft picks and herbert might be a better deal than getting burrow.

Remember back when Jerry first got the Cowboys? They sucked. Then they traded Hershel to the Vikings for a ton of stuff, and built up into a Superbowl franchise.

Different position, same principle. A single superstar doesn't necessarily help you, and a rookie QB with a bad Oline can be trouble.
a couple big draft hauls, on the other hand, can upgrade the entire team.

Taking Burrow #1 is a NO LOSE situation for the Bengals since every draft 'expert' & former NFL GMs agree that JB is the best NFL ready QB & the Bengals desperately need a franchise QB. If Burrow is a bust (highly doubtful) then EVERYONE that gets paid to evaluate NFL Draft picks will also have gotten it wrong!

This is the most important factor. Yes, NFL team executives are trying to make their teams better, but they are also trying not to get fired. Passing on Joe Burrow has a higher probability of getting someone fired than drafting him does.

If he drafts Joe Burrow and doesn’t put any pieces around him then he still gets fired. It is about winning. It doesn’t matter who the gm brings in as long as they are winning or at least show optimistic improvements. The best moves are not always the most popular.

There was also a report that just came out that they’re fine with Cam as their starter based on his progress.

But I know everything this time of year is a smoke screen. They could easily trade Cam, the 7th pick, and other assets to get it.

There’s a reason so many people threw their name out because they have pretty realistic trade assets to do it.

That gets him fired 3 years from now. If he passes on the consensus #1 pick and Burrow is a total stud right out of the gate, that dude's getting fired in November.

I’m not trying to say that they shouldn’t draft Burrow and I’m not saying they won’t draft Burrow. I’m just saying it is not crazy to trade the pick and could actually be a good move. This whole debate started bc a guy said it would be dumb to trade him and no way that it would happen and has escalated from there.

You're right that it's not crazy, I just don't think it's likely.

I imagine that if Louisiana had a home bred home grown legend of a QB that won a natty and the Heisman trophy all ready to go to the Saints(having #1 pick) who had not won a playoff game in 29 years the word dumb would be the least offensive comment on him being traded away.

Miami is the only team with the firepower to trade up to 1.
3 number 1’s in this year’s draft could be the move!

Every fan in Louisiana would probably hate it except me. If we got a bunch of assets that would set us up to rebuild our team I wouldn’t mind it one bit. Not every first overall pick is going to be capable of providing a high return like Burrow would. RG3 trade is the floor. It takes a whole team to win Not just one player

Saints, you know what to do.

What the frick do you want them to do?

Value of number 1 pick = 3000

Value of Panthers picks
Round 1 pick 7 = 1500
Round 2 (38 overall) = 520
Round 3 (69th overall) = 245

Value of Saints picks
Round 1 pick 24 = 740
Round 3 pick 88 = 150

4th onward are chump change so not worth mentioning. A future first is worth about half the value of a current first. So a future first in Carolina's case would come out to around 750, which is still of higher value than the Saints current first. A future first for the Saints comes out to 370, equivalent to the 53rd pick in the draft.

Carolina with their first and a future first come out to 2250 points, while the Saints would be at 1110.

If Carolina offered their 2020 1st + 2021 first + 2020 2nd + 2020 3rd they reach a value of 3015. It's likely they still would have to overpay, so let's add a future 2nd as well (a value of about 260). That brings them to a total of 3275.

Carolina's grandfather offer:

2020 1st (7th overall)
2021 1st
2020 2nd
2021 2nd
2020 3rd

If the Saints offered pick 24 + 5 future firsts they reach a value of 2570.

So, what would is it possible for the Saints to get Borrow?
Unless you plan on giving up 5-7 years of 1st rounds picks and destroying a franchise, NO.

But Mike Brown is notorious for balking at huge trade offers when he has his sights set on a player.

He's the guy who turned down the Rickey Williams draft trade in 1999 before the Redskins jumped on it.

Wasn’t there a report just a few days ago that they are sticking with Cam. Maybe a vote of confidence to help his trade value.
