Williams was a few years ago. Stood on the podium.
They run the same engine as Merc and are just that bad.
Haas is half assing their F1 program. They are getting the results they are putting in.

Yea, I know Williams was a player historically, but other than that brief run with Bottas, they haven't done squat since I was in high school.

Agreed. Williams was the constructors champion as recently as the late 90's. Mercedes poached Bottas and Massa retired so they went from Bottas and Massa to Stroll and Sirotkin in one year I think. Plus at the end of 2018, they lost Rich Energy as a sponsor at the last minute to Haas. And while that might have been a blessing in disguise in the long run, it deprived them of some much needed funding. They're not going to be challenging Mercedes but just a few years ago they had an argument for best of the rest.
Here's a video of Max doing a lap on the refurbished Zandvoort track. LINK
Everybody has been talking about the banking on the final turn but in this video, it's not that extreme. From the reactions I heard, I was expecting classic Monza.

Max Verstappen of Red Bull was also in the mix yesterday, only a half second back from the Mercs.
Only? They are in big trouble unless they find some speed, and it’s definitely a speed issue because Max can hang with anyone as a driver.

We don't know if they had the wick turned up so it's hard to compare laptimes at this stage. A half second means they're there or thereabouts and they may have passed Ferrari.

I have been a F1 fan since I was a kid, when all were were into NASCAR, INDY or NHRA. I was the outcast I. The auto group needless to say. Great to find a few local fans. First love is probably the endurance series, but this is right there.
Anyone planning on a trip to Austin?

Can we talk about Drive to Survive Season 2? I was pretty bummed they didn't go into the Rich Energy/Haas shitshow more. They basically portrayed it as Rich dropped them for sucking, which is partly true but leaving out all the shitposting by the CEO was doing that disaster a disservice.
This bothered me, as well as the recap of Hockenheim. They left out a big reason so many cars started wrecking; they all switched to dry tires too soon.
Thought they handled Spa with Hubert extremely well though. Not showing the big impact in the accident was a great call too.

I’d love to go but it’ll probably be next year for me

I just hope as a Ferrari fan that they can finally take the Mercs down.

Austin a couple years ago was good though.

Anybody worried about corona wrecking the F1 season? China obviously already postponed/cancelled, but Italian teams will have travel restrictions, the Middle East is blowing up with the virus, etc.
MotoGP already cancelled their first two races.

Yeah definitely worried about that. Like you said they already 86'd China and I've heard that the Hanoi race is now threatened. Bahrain might be questionable too although I haven't heard anyone say it could be cut.
Also I heard a few weeks ago that Imola wanted to have a race to make up for the cancelled China race (on a different date) but haven't heard anything since. Obviously some bad juju there because of Senna but I'd love to see a Grand Prix at Imola again. Much more interesting track than Monza.

Seems like Imola would be less appealing now because of the coronavirus blowing up in Italy over the past few weeks.
Suzuka, Singapore, Vietnam all have to be in question as well
Could be a weird year with huge gaps in the calendar

Yeah and that may be why I haven't heard anything lately. This was before Italy blew up.

I went last year for the first time with 4 buddies and had a blast. We're renting an RV to drive down from Dallas and stay in the RV lot the whole weekend this year. Can't wait to party with all the international fans at nights.

Luckily the season rolls out slowly so in a month they can see where they are and not have to have knee jerk reactions.
These teams aren't insulated, so an employee is going to bring the virus into the factories eventually. Like any office, once it starts spreading the travel will seem less of an issue.
Maybe they race in front of some empty stands at points.

Kind of what I was thinking as well.
It's a lot easier to test/control for just the teams than the entire hangers on crew and hundreds of thousands in the crowds.
Given the revenue split between racetrack/TV, I have to think they're thinking about this at some places. TV may even see a spike if everyone is working from home/not traveling/quarantined.

Not to get too far off track but Jesus, who was that brunette following Gasly in episode 6? There’s beautiful women and there’s her. Holy shite.

Nobody outkicks their coverage better than racecar drivers and pro golfers.
Meanwhile, ticket sales halted for Bahrain.
