Rule number 1 when talking about WiFi:
There are no absolute general statements you can make about anything.
Seriously.
5Ghz is supposed to be faster, but you could have a weirdly wired and framed house that makes 2.4 GHz better outside of the room the router is in

depends on distance and obstacles.
completely basic: 5Ghz twice the speed but half the distance

I can catch my 2.4 connection on the next street over 200ft away from my house. I can barely catch the 5 connection 2 rooms away from the router.

5 is better downstairs. 2.4 is better upstairs.
5 is faster but doesn’t have the distance. It loses a ton of speed the further away you get.
2.4 is slower (although still respectably fast), but doesn’t lose speed anywhere in my house. If you get too far away, 5 dips below 2.4 in speed.

At what distance?
5 is faster close to the router but not as good further away. Still get at least 50 in all corners of my lot on 5 so I don't really care.

buy a router that automatically detects the best option and you don't have this problem.

2.4 Maxes out at 450 or 600mbps
5 Maxes out at 1300mbps

I'm talking like same room as the router... 80mbps at 5ghz, 15-25 at 2.4ghz
Maybe I need to up my speed, but 100mbps internet should run just about anything that you need.
