Yes. They're a jam band.

Labels are tricky in music but they're also useful. The term "jam band" is a pretty big umbrella and different bands fall at different points on a spectrum. Gov't Mule is a blues-rock jam band while Galactic is a jazz-funk jam band. Their styles are more focused than the archetypical bands like the Dead and Phish who play a wide variety of styles from blues to rock to jazz to bluegrass, etc. But they still fit under the umbrella.

I used to see Gov't Mule in small clubs when Woody was still alive. Those guys jammed HARD.
