I cheer them on with encouraging statements like “come on, you can do it” or “you got this.”

Why don't you ask him what he would prefer? If I knew someone for 20 years I would have brought it up at some point.

Maybe you’re right . I’ve always just felt awkward/uncomfortable addressing it

I worked with a guy that stuttered. I would find myself stuttering when u talked to him or around him. Only time in my life that's ever happened..

Best to very specifically describe him on a popular message board so all who know him can ridicule him.

I find myself doing the same. Mimicking his speech and having to catch myself

Don’t treat them any differently and be patient with them as you would your own family. One of my former coworkers who became one of my best friends stuttered, but he took it in stride and used self deprecating humor all the time about it. Many men and women are extremely self conscious about it and have been bullied because of that, so keep that in mind. Costs zero dollars to be kind.

I don’t treat him any differently. He’s an awesome dude with a hot wife, very successful etc. I just don’t know how I should address this small part of our friendship

You don't address it. It probably embarrasses him and would be uncomfortable talking about it.

Have patience. Nod quietly in acknowledgement. Keep your body language in check.
