i'm not sympathetic to the elected official argument, at all, because it's insane that he's an elected official anyway. that office wouldn't miss the tiniest beat if he were a professional rather than a politician. or if he were gone altogther.

The Treasurer is rarely more than a highly paid figurehead. Professionals run the office, make all the decisions, and tell the Treasurer what to rubber stamp. The only real work the last few Treasurers have done is using the position to propel themselves into higher office. The elected position ought to be abolished.

This isn't a bad thing imho.

Well every elected official is trying to do that. I actually think the treasurer is the ONLY statewide elected official we need (besides the governor, of course). The Lt. Gov, Insurance Comm, agricultural Commissh for pete's sake! I am ambivelent on Att General. But someone needs to serve as a check on the governor and the treasurer can do that. In accounting lingo, it's a separation of duties thing.

And yes, 80% of what Kennedy used to bang on about was nonsense. But 20% was correct. And it is good to have someone that will alert the public and the media even if some of it is a false alarm.

And even here, as I have said, Schroeder is legally wrong...but he is raising a larger point. One that needs to be made. So to me, this is working as it should.
