How much will defenses adjust to the LSU spread offense and who will copy it?

I'll admit that the seemingly long time that it is taking Coach O to hire a new passing game coordinator is a bit concerning but it's now unnecessary concern at this point after I heard Coach O's comments on the matter. He stated that he is looking for the right guy, a guy that fits with our culture and can bring in new ideas.
Both of those criteria are important but the latter is the most important. SEC defenses have an entire off season to prepare for our offense. They will adjust. The "new ideas" part of the new passing game coordinator are very important to staying ahead of SEC defenses.
I also find it interesting that Coach O want's to bring back the 4-3 with Bo because he feels like it's a defensive style better suited to stopping the spread offense. You know SEC offense are going to copy last year's LSU offense, so we have to be prepared to stop it.
I like the way Coach O is thinking. He wants to stay ahead of the curve on offense (yes, even the spread can get stale and it gets stale when defenses catch up) and adjust his defense as SEC offenses change to the spread.

We copied the Saints RPO concepts. Plays that Drew doesn't run but Taysom does.

I've never seen Drew make run/pass decisions at the mesh point with Kamara or Murray. Taysom, yes. Sometimes he hands it off, sometimes he keeps it himself and sometimes he pulls it and passes.

We ran maybe 3 dozen RPOs all season long in situations that mattered. We copied the Saints pass skeleton, that’s what produced the offense we just saw. The RPO game was our 3rd or 4th pitch in that offense it wasn’t our fastball.

Do you thing other SEC offenses will be copying this?

Teams will have to have better pass rushers. It really comes down to that. Can’t rely on 6 guys playing defense against 5 receivers or the QB will nearly always find the open guy.

I think most teams have RPOs now so that part is already widely in circulation. As far as the passing concepts, after watching all the playoffs and tracking most of the contenders the last half of the season we were so far advanced in the passing game I’m not sure simply copying what we did off of film alone is enough. You might see teams use specific setups like when we’d motion the RB wide of the WR who was lined up in a slot position and use that matchup problem but I don’t think film is enough to copy our offense.

I agree. It really is that simple. I guess the 3-4 base concept with the DT occupying the middle gives QB's too much time in O's opinion so he want's to change to more an "attacking style" 4-3 base.

I'm sure defenses will make adjustments, but I'm sure LSU is ahead of the game. They will probably give a lot of the same looks, but will tweak it by running different routes or shift to a totally different formation. The key to being successful on offense is executing it to perfection and keeping the defense guessing on what is coming next. Of course, a lot of our success will also hinge on the level of QB, RB and OL play we get on a consistent basis. It's all part of one big puzzle!

There will always be a mismatch as there just aren't enough linebackers that can cover everyone or at least 5 athletes in space. We gonna keep eating....

It’s very very difficult to copy. It’s not like teams just have a Joe Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase, Terrace Marshall Jr, Thad Moss, Justin Jefferson and Clyde.

Not quite. We ran a lot of RPO stuff which was great, but the largest change in our offense was that we took a ton of the Saints' passing concepts.
Also, I think you're under the common misinterpretation that only mobile QBs run RPO's. That's not true at all. Myles Brennan, for example, who isn't a mobile QB, ran a lot of RPO's when he got in late in games this past year and will likely run a lot of RPO stuff next year as well. In my opinion, all you need to be a good RPO QB is being able to read a defense quickly and having a quick release, both of which Brennan excels at.

This is the answer. LSU won't have this next year either. All 5, plus much of the OL, will play in the NFL soon. LSU won't have an offense loaded with NFL talent every year.
If our offense is 2/3 as good next year it will still be better than 3/4 offenses LSU has ever had.

First paragraph? Ok fine but you didn't ask a question. The other three paragraphs do not make any sense to me because your assumptions are way off.

I don't think many football fans thought our offense was loaded with NFL talent before the season started.

Brady was great and wonderful etc. but Burrow had 9 months to throw every day to his wrs. He didn’t have that in 2018. Burrow completed 80% and not just slants. I’ve never seen anything like it. Yes Brady had some concepts, but Burrow and his playmakers made Brady a rich man.
Whoever we hire should be fine, but expect a 65% passer and not an 80% passer.

Pass Skeleton? Now you’re making things up

Everyone will adjust. Ole Miss and Moo St are moving to spread RPO or air raid offenses.. Kirby Smart claimed that Georgia ran the same plays as LSU.
After Ole Miss everyone we played ran that zone read power play against us 10 or 20 times per game.
Supposedly Bama has three base pass plays. Receivers at all three levels. But they run them from 10 or more formations so it looks like 30 plays.
All comes down to execution and decision making on the field.
LSU is moving to a 4.3 base. Ok. Reality is 5 DBs will be on the field most of the time so the formation will be 3.3.5 or 4.2.5 most of the time More of a forcing defense.. bigger plays by the defense and risks some bigger plays by the offense. We shall see
