Joe Burrow’s dad tries to tamp down speculation they don’t want to be Bengals

This could get interesting. Should they pull an Eli Manning?

quote:

Even though most of the chatter — which leaves plenty of room between the lines — is coming from the mouths of his son and those around him.

The father of the LSU quarterback sent a text to Jeremy Rauch of Fox 19 in Cincinnati disputing the suggestion they didn’t want to end up with the Bengals with the first pick.

“Not sure where that information is coming from,” Jimmy Burrow said. “We are all excited that Joe has put himself in a position to be considered as a possible high draft choice.”

To recap, for the sake of Mr. Burrow, here’s where it’s coming from:

First, former Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer said the Bengals weren’t serious about winning Super Bowls. Then, Burrow hired Carson’s brother Jordan Palmer to train him this offseason. Then, Joe himself said he wanted to play for a team “committed to winning Super Bowls,” which sounds a lot like what the first Palmer was saying. Then, former Bengals wideout T.J. Houshmandzadeh, who is also working with Burrow, said they weren’t disparaging the Bengals but that they should “strongly consider” any gigantic trade offers they might get.

I'd rather see him somewhere where he can actually win, but I don't think he'd pull an Eli.

Why can't Joe be the one who changes it in Cinci?

It's kind of funny all this smoke is coming from former Bengals.

Because one player can not fix the culture of their ownership/front office.

I hope he does, but I wouldn't bet on it.

I might be wrong, but I don't think that's Burrow's decision to make.

Because he has no team around him to succeed.

Cinci was 2-14 with 7 losses decided by 7 pts or less last year. If Burrow is at least a one TD upgrade over Dalton/Finley, then that same rosters goes 9-7 and probably makes the playoffs. It isn't that shocking to think he can turn around the Bengals to at least an above average team.

Okay?

I mean hasn't it helped before though?

Brees worked in Nola didn't he?

I think Burrow will be great and lead a team to a title regardless of where he goes.

You asked a question, I gave an answer.

Sure it has happened before. People have also won the Powerball before.

Sounds like Joe just wants the right system in place around him and he’s using the ecosystem in place to systematically put himself through the NFL’s system of dispersing players to new teams. It’s quite interesting watching Joe’s systemization of the draft process.

Joe isn't dumb.
No one wants to spend the rest of their life living in Cincinnati.

Just think it's a chicken attitude to think Joe can't change it.
He's pound for pound the best QB prospect since Peton Manning.
Great things will happen for him.

These dumb storylines happen every year and they're always just a bunch of bullshite. Remember when the media was trying to convince everyone that Zion was going to go back to Duke because he didn't want to get drafted by the Pels?

It has to start from the top. And Mike Brown doesn't give a shite about winning. He believes his max revenue comes from a minimum budget and very little effort.

Brown appears to be doing better than Jerry @ Dallas and Dan Snyder @ Washington who give max effort and budget.

I’ve been kind of surprised at how much Joe’s father has spoken about his future going all the way back into the season. I certainly don’t think this is a situation of a parent wanting the spotlight. But I think it’s weird how much he has spoken for his son, especially when his son is so frank when speaking for himself.

Agreed. Joe is a grown arse man. Is he going to be suiting up on Sundays or is his pops? Parents should never be interviewed about this kind of shite. Nobody learned with LaVar Ball?
