I pay thousands for my seats behind the Tiger bench. You think I will pay the same for seats behind the goal? It is a money game. Money talks and the students will stay behind the goal.

I think you’re both technically correct. The students were behind where the bench currently is. But at the time, the beach was across the court from where they are.
