Don Garber made it clear to Mayor Cooper that Major League Soccer would not have awarded Nashville an expansion team without the commitment made by the city to build a soccer stadium at the Fairgrounds.
Different rules for different franchises

Ya that's pretty messed up he would say that while allowing nycfc to play in a fricking outfield.
Also, they should enter into negotiations with Franklin or somewhere else close just to show the mayor they aren't playing around.

Franklin would be the perfect place to do that. Gold star for the day.

I'm liking Cooper, the main reason he won election was b/c he was serious about making sure Nashville was on sound financial ground. The last few mayors wanted to turn Nashville into Rich people party town, debt be damned. I always said it was too soon for Nashville to get a MLS franchise.

Yeah frick this guy. If this path continues he's at risk of getting Metro in a lawsuit.

It's not ideal but at this point I want to say frick Metro Nashville. There's a lot of open land off of I65 between Brentwood and Franklin.

An update to the story
Also, a letter from the club owner.

The letter, obtained by FOX 17 News, outlines offers Nashville SC made to the city, including $19 million in infrastructure and $35 million that Nashville was on the hook for if ticket sales didn't reach expectations.

What a a dumbazz deal, glad Briley lost. He would've been recruiting an MLB team right now---promising $200 million for a new baseball stadium or some isht.
I can't stand American pro sports.

Murfreesboro is 20 years from being the next Nashville. Every city is retarded at the end of the day.

If Briley wasn't going to lay down any cash for an MLB team there's no way in hell that Cooper would. Also, an MLB stadium would be a lot more expensive and honestly a poor investment. MLB numbers have been dropping.

If MLS is mad at you then you're probably doing something right.

I don’t think this is one of those cases

The mayor is leading the city toward a lawsuit for not keeping the commitments. In his own words the deal was done before he took office.

I know you hate MLS, but come on. The mayor is in the wrong here. He’s gonna plunge the city into a losing lawsuit if he doesn’t keep the commitments that were finalized before he took office.
He’s trying to leverage a situation where he has no leverage to use. If this were still in the negotiation phase, that’d be different, but it’s not. The deal was firmly agreed upon and passed. Ground should have broken months ago, and it keeps getting held up for stupid things like this at the local level.

He's also holding up other developments as well.

Looks like they finally came to an agreement with the mayor.
