Tipping for a men’s haircut

OK, my haircut is pretty simple and straightforward. Takes about 10 minutes and then I have them shampoo the hair clippings out. This cost me $22 at sports clips. I’ve always tipped $5 and thought that was generous.
Now the payment screen shows tip choices of:
$5
$7
$10
Or “enter custom amount”
Now I feel like the girl who cuts my hair looks at me like I’m a cheapskate when I select the lowest possible choice on the screen. Even though I think it’s a good tip amount
What does the average OT Baller tip on a normal men’s haircut and shampoo?

My haircuts are $12.00 next door, but I give her a $20.00 because she used to take my tip back in the day

$5 is plenty enough. I used to tip that much when I went to the fancy places that give you a drink with your haircut. Now I go to a old man barbershop that charges $17 and I just give them a $20.
In before the cheapskates start crap about it being stupid to tip for a haircut.

25 percent. I do not go to Super Cut's.

I would concur that $5 is generous (greater than 20%).

I wish we’d just have a thread on professions that we don’t have to tip.

I have "difficult" hair, so I go to a girl that charges $40. I tip $10. I think $5 on $22 is plenty. It's almost 25%.

It’s interesting when you visit Europe and they don’t expect any tip and how gracious and grateful they are when you give them one.

a week or so before Christmas the old lady asked if I'd left a tip for the mail man yet, I was like, WTF? why? want me to tip the garbage collectors too? apparently that's a thing too

My barber charges $17 and only takes cash, so it's kind of accepted you give them a $20.

My haircut is also $22 I usually pay with a $20 and a $10 and tell her keep the change, but I think you are spot on with your tip, if you think about it you are already paying her to do her job, I’m in the fiber optic business and no one has ever offered me a tip for doing my job.

I don't bother with tips at all. I just send a Harry & David Basket at the end of the year with a greeting card thanking him for all my haircuts.

Whenever haircuts for men went above $10, I started cutting my own hair.
We pay too much for services.

I would never tip the mailman. My neighbor did a solid deed around the holidays by putting out a big basket with snacks and drinks with a sign on it for the mail and package delivery folks to take some.

My place only takes cash and checks. When I started going a cut was $22. I took a $20 and a $10 with me. A few years and they upped the price to $24. I still gave $30. Now the price is $28 so I bring an extra $5. So they’ve gone from an $8 tip to a $6 tip to a $7 tip. Around the holidays I give them $40.

I’ve been wanting to try one of these places just for fun, sip on a bourbon while someone cuts my hair. It doesn’t sound so bad

I went to places like that for several years. When they all went up in price to $30 I stopped. They generally have several choices of liquor and beers.

It is a pretty good idea but I can imagine everything disappears fast if you don’t live in a nice neighborhood
