TBH that means Americans are about 120 meals away from chaos.
As long as people had water, the average American would probably become healthier in the first two months of a food shortage.

Not sure about them, but I do know that if the grid goes down or something happens we’d be in a world of hurt. You saw how animalistic people became after Katrina. Once they’ve stripped the cities they will spread out. Think Katrina was bad? Wait until something like that happens - most people can’t survive on their own and they won’t be nice.

Im gonna represent Yellow Creek then. I'll send you some smoke signals. My boy gonna be out their fishing tomorrow... BTW state smallmouth record was set 33 years ago today in yellow Creek.

It is like being prepped for a bad hurricane but then some.
I haven't seen the show in years but it is entertaining. Some have bug out bags and vehicle to leave drills.

Where you live will be more important than what you store up. I really don't need to store much of anything, including food or water.

Unfortunately, after a week or more without electricity, we’d have people murdering other people in the streets for food and other supplies.
Preppers may be a little paranoid, but they’re better prepared than most of us. A little insurance policy if the SHTF.
Years ago, my brother and I were talking to a guy who was a prepper. He was telling us about all of the things he had hoarded. He asked us if we were prepared, and my brother who’s a former Marine says, “Nah, I don’t have any food or supplies saved up, but I’ve got a shitload of guns and ammo. So when the shite hits the fan, I’ll just kill people like you and take your shite.”

I’d gather my immediate family and head to my place in Grand Isle with all my guns and ammo. We could survive off the land in GI for a while on seafood and roasted pelicans.

Low population and restricted access will be a haven. You can live off the sea and the food it provides.
Might look into a nice 20 mm Oerlikon to keep the riff raft and unprepared away.

No, I went without grid power for three weeks, spent my days drinking shine and tending my smoker, biggest problem was my cigar stash got kinda low and I have made sure that will not happen again short of an end of days event.

You'd be dead within a week once the power was out and the fresh water runs out. Find a place with a cistern, I guess.
ETA: On second thought, if you can tap the storage tanks, you probably could survive a while. I take it back. Blow up the bridge and ride it out. You could post sentries along the bay side of the island and pick people off trying to cross via boat.

One of the nicer things about the Tennessee Valley is the abundance of creeks and streams. Now, you'll probably shite your brains out at first unless you're drinking from the Sipsey, but you'll survive. If you've got good filters and iodine, then you're golden.

To me, it looks less like "survival" or prepping, and more like someone who wants to rule the rubble and become something akin to Negan from The Walking Dead or Lord Humungus from The Road Warrior
I think before it really gets to that point, super rich people will isolate themselves in compounds, with supplies. I also think they'll employ former special ops types ala Academi/Blackwater. Our politicians will eventually protect the people I'm talking about with our armed services before it gets to the point you're talking about anyway.

If it makes them happy and they have the money to do it who cares?
They are rolling the dice and once in a blue moon the dice come up snake eyes.

If money becomes worthless, the wealthy will be those who have hoarded supplies. The currently rich in cities will be peasants.

Ownership of highest order capital goods > digital capital

Money would be the most useless thing out there in a long term SHTF situation.

The only option would be to block it, fortify it and guard it.
