Let me get this straight: you apply for and gain admission at this private university where tuition is nearly $55K a year, presumably you have some idea of the history of the university, you know that Robert E. Lee is buried in the University chapel, yet you somehow have a problem with the likeness of George Washington and Robert E. Lee appearing on your diploma because you're an sjw freak?!?! Then go somewhere else, I hear Mizzou rolls out the red carpet for idiots like you. And these losers are going to presumably be tomorrow's lawyers and, God help us, judges.
Students at Washington and Lee University want the option of receiving a diploma without the portraits of the university's namesakes: George Washington and Robert E. Lee.
A petition is gaining support among law students there, and now, a great-nephew of the Confederate general is joining them.
Petition organizers want the university to be an "inclusive and compassionate environment" for its students and having an option to opt-out of the portraits will be a step in the right direction, they say.
"The goal of establishing this option is to create a diploma that alumni are proud to prominently display in their homes and places of work," the organizers write.
Don't like the diploma, don't go there! Pretty simple, really, you morons!

GW owned slaves so he and others like Jefferson and Andy Jackson will definitely be targeted during the next wave of SJW history removal. They've put it on hold until after this election.

It's a shame that those people want to write Lee out of history, as if there is nothing to learn from the man's life.
As most of us here probably know, he was a man of honor and humility. His views about the nation healing after the Civil War were not what the uninformed would expect.

He was literally Hitler.

There is no point trying to expect logical behaviors from the left. Their minds don’t work like that.

Probably racist. Should be removed from $1 bill. Actually come to think of it his name should be removed from history books as well.
Just kidding. The far left is nuts. The young ones in particular have been insulated from any form of adversity. In reality they are gigantic pussies but they don't even realize it.
And I'm a registered Democrat.

It is a shame that his own family does not take the time to learn that the man deserves honor and respect.
WTF has happened to our country.

Lee himself probably would agree with the petition.
The civil war was more than 150 years ago. Why don’t y’all just get over it?

If we're going to scrutinize every single person in history until a disqualifying fatal flaw is identified we gonna have some empty history books.

It’s not the country. It isn’t even a majority of the country. It’s a relatively small portion of society, mostly coastal liberals and the media who have convinced others that their’s is a mainstream representation.

Nobody is erasing history or even trying to do so. People who make the opposite claim usually are history revisionists.

A great nephew isn’t a descendant.
Also, a great-uncle or great-aunt is a sibling of one’s grandparent.
There is a guy alive in 2020 who’s grandparent was a sibling of REL?
REL’s siblings were born in 1784,1786, 1787, 1795, 1800, 1802 and 1811.
Which one is his grandparents was born 209 years ago at best?

Um...the university doesn't bear his name because of anything he did in the Civil War.

I’m trying to refocus this thread that CNN is completely inaccurate in its headline and story:
The guy isn’t a descendant of Robert E. Lee and he isn’t the great-nephew of Robert E. Lee.
