Romney loses GOP support in Utah after challenging Trump on impeachment

Utah Republican Sen. Mitt Romney lost support from Republicans and independents in his home state during the weeks after he called for witnesses in President Trump's Senate impeachment trial, a new poll shows.
The Morning Consult survey found support for Romney, 72, going down after he called for former national security adviser John Bolton to testify at Trump’s impeachment trial, which began on Thursday.
The poll shows the senator’s approval rating falling among Utah Republicans from September through December 2019, and independents also shifted to disapproving of Romney over the quarter.
In the prior quarter, 65% of Utah Republicans supported Romney, and while a majority still do presently, that number sank to 57%.
The numbers are particularly striking for Utah, one of the most Republican states in the country. Romney romped to victory in his 2018 Senate bid and has been considered a local hero of sorts among his fellow Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints constituents and others.
The Utah Republican senator, however, did gain among Democrats in his state. According to the poll, 46% of Democrats late last year in the fourth quarter approved of the former Massachusetts governor and 2012 Republican presidential nominee. This was a spike of 4 percentage points from several months prior.

I knew not supporting/voting for him or the other cucksucker McCain during their presidential campaigns was the right decision.

I don’t believe it
They knew who he was this past election but voted to elect him anyways

Turtle wants witnesses but I agree with Rand Paul the democrats will never allow the whistle blower, the disgraced IG that started the mess, Bidens,or anyone else.
We all know they will scream the whistle blower has protections and they will never allow it.
How about they call Romney to the stand with Kerry, Graham, Pelosi, Obama, and others with family ties and connections to corrupt Ukraine?

David French's next column will express his disappointment in Utah Republicans

I regret voting for that POS along with Songbird.

Romney will be there another five years. I doubt he has any concerns about polls.
John McCain's Anti-Trump replacement.
Total POS.

Mitt’s cool with losing support from his party and base as long as he garners support from the media and Democrats.

Why does Romney want witnesses called? To lose?
Dershowitz just pointed out that Trump will invoke EP once Bolton agrees and is giddy about testifying. Then the whole thing will be drug out in court, possibly down to each question they want to ask.

I don’t disagree.
But Amash isn’t a senator.

This is why I was a Paulbot in 2012
Frontrunners like this a-hole, and look at how he turned out. Romney had the majority support in 2012 on this board.

During the PRIMARIES, I agree you completely; there were better choices.
In a GENERAL ELECTION, you really have 4 choices. Stay at home, the R, the D, and one of the others who have no chance of winning. In the end, you know either the R or the D will win. Of these, you would probably prefer one, your least objectionable choice (LOC) of the two.
If you stay at home, or vote for one of the others who have no chance of winning, you are actually aiding your MOST objectionable choice, by not voting for your LOC of the 2 possible winners. This is how Ross Perot gave us a womanizing draft-dodger President.
This is the fallout of 2 party system. I plead guilty to voting for both Romney and McCain in the general elections. They were my LOCs.

Romney is a joke. One of these types who acts all high and mighty but really isn’t anything.

By rule, any thread that mentions Romney in the title must include this picture.

I wish I followed his politics closely enough just to point out what a hypocrite he is.

The thing about America's electorate...they have a very short memory, and the attention span of a gnat. Politicians know this.
