It seems reasonable to me that given the current roster and incoming class that the new DC will likely move to a 4-3. Several players have already tweeted making that reference. Good move in my opinion.

I could see that happening. It probably just depends on who the defensive coordinator is and what he likes to do.

It does probably mean K’Lavon May leave if he thinks the scheme change is bad for him.

It will be an adjustment period but I see Orgeron 100% doing this. He hinted all season that he wanted more pressure from his d line.

Only if it’s a hybrid 4-3 (like Venables runs).
His morphs between 4-3 and 4-2-5 (quasi-dime).

In this age of offenses, you are putting less speed on the field with the 4-3

4-3 is less versatile and just isn’t great against the spread. It’s why Saban runs an odd front. Plus we’ve been recruiting to a 3 man front with a standup backer. O will want same scheme.

Hope we get aggressive with the D-line. That will be our strength on Defense for the next few years, so we may as well play to our strengths.

Just a lot of old school folks posting about this that don't understand the 3-4. With how offenses are evolving, the 3-4 is a much better option.

Clemson seems to have done damn good with a 4-3. There are still ways to be versatile with it. Saban runs more even fronts than you think, even if his base D is a 3-4.

It should be recruiting athletes that allow you to run variable fronts like Saban does.

Well they had 4 NFL Dlinemen the year their D was unreal. You can be a 4-3 team but you have to have a 3 man sub package in today’s college football. We don’t have 4-3 defensive ends on this roster so you won’t be going back to that. LSU has odd front personnel so you will odd fronts.

You realize that outside of goal line situations, Clemson exclusively ran 3 DL against LSU.

...and 1 LB with 7 DB's and it still didn't work.

4-2-5

That would be called a nickle, not a a quasi-dime.

Yes, I am aware of that. You are proving my point. It means that Venables has employed a versatile defense because his base defense is an even front. You can go to a base 4-3 and still be extremely versatile. We also have Jacoby Stevens on the back end next year to play the perfect hybrid in a 4-2-5.
