Could the tackle on Chase be called defensive holding... I do think the ball was long and uncatchable but it seems cheap foul to tackle a player. What if every defensive back did this after a dropped catch or overthrown ball?

There is always questionable calls on both sides. The Fulton play should have been an int, it all comes out in the wash. Plus on the Higgins td, he grabbed Vincent’s jersey and also extended his arm, clearly gaining an advantage, it was a little ticky tack but not a blown call.
Totally agree.

Facemask on Delpit was bad
Only if you don't understand the rule. That was 100% a good call.

Yeah, I feel like hold should have been called on that play. It may have been uncatchable but being uncatchable doesn't matter on holding plays. I believe it only matters on PIs.

For some reason in college, even though the officiating is garbage, it seems like it doesn't ultimately change the winner/loser of games like in the NFL.

They didn't miss the facemask on Chassion that was 1 of 2 penalties that got them a 3rd on that drive. Rest is correct.

It was a good call but I didn't think it was egregious. Depit reached to tackle the Clemson runner on the back but the runner fell to a position were the only part of this body that Delpit could grab was the back of the helmet. It should have been the 5 yard variety face mask call. Does that still exist in CFB or are all face mask penalties the 15 yard variety?

frick dem the refs were terrible for both teams.

I got stuck on a few hour flight delay with a college officiating crew a few years ago. We went into a lot of details on what gets called and what doesn't when it comes to holding and PI.
Where the OPI came into play on that call was the offensive player's left hand appearing to cause the defender to lose balance and end up on the ground.
You can see the grab and arm extension here:
and the defender going to the ground here with the grab still continuing:
If the offensive receiver would have released after the first picture it likely doesn't get called. In real time it looked like the offensive player used the defensive player to change direction causing the defender to fall.
That is why it was called.

The hands to the face call on the d-lineman (I don't remember who it was) was a weak call as well. That drive we gave them 30 yards in penalties.

Not sure how that works for them, since it was penalties on LSU that kept them in the game for as long as they were.
The DPI called on Fulton in the 1st bothered me, since it looked to me that the receiver was extending his arm to keep Fulton away and then Fulton tripped and fell on the receiver's legs. Not sure I saw DPI there, even though it was a lot of contact.
Overall, I thought the game was inconsistently called, but it certainly wasn't in LSU's favor.

They're all 15 yards. But, it definitely would have been a 5 yarder.

It was definitely a face mask on Chaisson but the replay clearly showed the OL full on bear hugging him. Should have been offsetting penalties. But oh well. Refs miss em sometimes.

Clemson fans, compare penalties (and everything else) and please explain to me how it would have mattered...

Fulton int was legit, did not see anything there that Clemson wasn't doing all game on the offensive pass int, could have been a no call but he did turn Fulton which is what they look for.
Officials were ok - missed reviewing Helaire possibly out of bounds but LSU was rolling that drive and it wouldn't have mattered.
I liked that they let the DB's be aggressive and didn't call every ticky tack thing.
The targeting was the correct all according to the rule, don't agree with the ejection part of it because I don't think it was a malicious play. That LB was tough all game and put some hits on Burrow.

Ok, give them a touchdown and we won't take a knee on first and goal on the 2 yard line.

That ball was uncatchable. That was a good no call.
So then call it holding! He tackled him, it should have drawn a flag!

I thought the OPI was bullshite as well as the dpi on that int. which cancel out IMO. There were a few ticky tacky calls like the facemask on chassion which i thought should have been incidental no call , the other facemask call where the rb's healmet poped off, the punt interference which he didnt even try to catch the ball and a few other dpi's that I thought went their way. Don't think they have a home cooking argument for this game.
