Here is video of the 1959 LSU - Clemson Sugar Bowl Game. The game video does not show the touchdown for some reason and it is on the separate video. Enjoy!

shite’s awesome. Had no idea there was color video of that. Fantastic find.

Both teams look almost indistinguishable from Les Miles’s offense, though. Got weird flashbacks.

In the 1959 game, Cannon (future Heisman winner) threw a TD pass. It's going to be interesting to see Burreaux accomplish the same (but probably more than 1x).

I enjoyed that. Of all the plays for the video to lose, it’s the lone touchdown. Narrated by Mel Leavitt. He was as a long time NOLA news/sports broadcaster.
I was surprised by the number of passes attempted by LSU early in the game. I thought they ran the ball almost every play in that era. The fake FG attempt when it was 0-0 also surprised me. I just thought that Deitzel was a pretty conservative Coach. He took some chances early in this game.
I’d take a guaranteed 7-0 final score right now.

That's a great observation! LSU doesn't get many Heisman winners and certainly doesn't get many national championship games. What are the odds that they would get both in one year and that the winner would throw a touchdown pass in the game against the SAME opponent in the SAME city twice? Wow!

The 1958 championship was awarded before the 1959 Sugar Bowl. However, LSU's last regular season game that season was at Tulane so I guess that kinda counts as winning it in New Orleans.

Does Clemson wear those dark purple/blue jerseys and white pants any more? It would be a hoot to see both teams wearing similar uniforms to the ones they wore in that 1959 Sugar Bowl.

Clemson wears a lighter purple jersey once a year. Although they didn’t this year. It’s on military appreciation day.

It certainly was a different brand of football back then. Lots of low scoring games. These offensive schemes make Les Miles look like Joe Brady! LOL!
