On top of what has already been said, I think the whole woke PC thing has a little to do with it as well. Look at FSU, Willie clearly was screwing the pooch and when he got fired after 2 years ppl were up in arms screaming racism, saying Norvell better get fired after the same timeframe if he doesn't win a natty ec
Its been like that since even before the blue checkmarks were around. Any school would have to consider that potential outcome on the front end.
Jesse Jackson was organizing protests because the packers fired Ray Rhodes. The total outrage that Ty Willingham didn't get a lifetime deal at ND bc he was black and Michael Wilbon said so, etc.

I mean look at the Cajuns. Jerry Baldwin was the worst coach in America but he was able to successfully sue the university for terminating him on the basis of race even while we were currently employing a black basketball coach.

Pretty much everyone from that list has been terrible.
Terrible? Really? There's quite a few on that list who found success as a HC. Maybe some in their recent destinations were bad to terrible (Willie Taggart), but they had success as a HC in their previous destinations (WKU).
Sumlin at Houston. Herm Edwards has not been "terrible". Turner did well at Buffalo. David Shaw had some good teams at Stanford.

This whole thread is an embarrassment to this board.
The failure rate across all coaches, regardless of ethnicity is high.

Remember how Alabama was racist for not hiring Sly Croom?
Those cries ended quickly after someone finally made the mistake of making him a head coach.

"With over 65% of the team being black, why not coaches?"
Why does it matter? The desire to win has resulted in that 65% black player percentage. The desire to win has also populated the coaching profession. Is it all just perception that give us these results? If so, define that perception and you have your answer.

How many successful white coaches have there been at Mississippi State?

If James Franklin is black I’m James Brown.

A better question would be: How many coaches had more than one winning season as Mississippi State's head coach?
Sly Croom isn't even in the top ten of Mississippi State football coaches all time. In fact, they just fired a coach who had more success than Croom in only 2 seasons of work. To claim he was not an abject failure is revisionist garbage.

Football is not a very complicated sport. There is no logical reason for the gap as mentioned in the OP. If Chan Gailey and Gase can continue to have coaching opportunities, than maybe there is an underlying issue. Just my opinion.

Football is a very complicated sport. In fact, it's THE most complicated, which makes it more coach dependant than most.
But I agree, why Chan Gailey was on anybodys wish list is beyond me.

A Black coach needs buy-in from the boosters to be successful and to free himself from being an example of model Blackness. Sly Croom, Randy Shannon, Tyrone Willingham, etc. are good men who tried to run clean programs and win. That's impossible in the Power 5. I think we are finally getting over that hump with guys like James Franklin, Herm Edwards and Locksley.

1. Dino Babers Syracuse ACC
2. James Franklin Penn State Big Ten
3. Derek Mason Vanderbilt SEC
4. David Shaw Stanford PAC 12
5. Lovie Smith Illinois Big Ten
6. Charlie Strong USF American Athletic
7. Willie Taggart Florida State ACC
8. Frank Wilson USTA USA
9. Herm Edwards Arizona State PAC 12
10. Kevin Sumlin Arizona PAC 12
11. Mel Tucker Colorado PAC 12
12. Mike Locksley Maryland Big Ten
13. Thomas Hammock Northern Illinois MAC
So 13 out of 130 or so FBS schools? Sounds like the percentage matches the national demographics.

John Blake, Oklahoma, can be added to that list.

Outside of the SWAC and ULL for 2 years and Tulane (4 years): has ANY other school had a black HC? and La College doest count. You make more as a HS then there .. With over 65% of the team being black, why not coaches?
You have to be talking about in Louisiana even though you didn't really make that specific very clear in your post or subject.
