This is a serious and extremely dangerous situation.

Don't attempt to minimize it.

Is that you, Hillary?

If the Iraqi government does not meet its obligations of protecting the American embassy, then the United States should take action against them and make it on a level consistent with what Iran gets now. Just a question of whether it's kinetic, cyber or sanctions.

Willfully refusing to defend a foreign nation's embassy when they're under siege is essentially an act of terrorism if not an outright act of war.

I don't care who you are or what the current situation is, that is a diplomatic red line that cannot be crossed and must be punished if its crossed.

Idk how diplomacy works but I have a hard time believing that a us ambassador can order a bunch of people to be mowed down

It’s not just my opinion here dude. The Vienna convention requires host countries to do everything it can to protect diplomatic facilities from violent incidents like this and Iraq so far is failing to adhere to that responsibility.

Article 22 of the 1961 Vienna Convention obligates Iraq "to take all appropriate steps to protect the premises of the mission against any intrusion or damage and to prevent any disturbance of the peace of the mission or impairment of its dignity."

Iraq is party to the Vienna convention. And that document is the cornerstone for diplomatic relations around the world. Any government that violates the convention must be held accountable.

These are all the countries that are party to the Vienna convention.

You’re right on this point. Refusing to protect a diplomatic mission is not something we can allow to happen without some type of response. Maybe not armed conflict at this point, but Iraq needs to feel this.

It’s really just a question of kinetic, cyber or sanctions. Could be a combo out of that.

But our Iraq policy is going to change drastically after this and Iraq has guaranteed that when they let these “protesters” get close to the embassy like they are now.

What difference does it make?

Up to 4,000 US troops could deploy to Middle East amid Baghdad unrest, officials say

Probably a lot to these 4000 troops and their families.
