To my fellow sportsman...
Taxidermist "misplaced" my son's first mallard after promising he would have it ready for Christmas. Now it is missing. So I am searching for a nice mounted mallard duck to be able to still come through for Christmas. Feels a deceitful, yes...but for him to get "his" duck mount for Christmas (His or Like His) will make all the difference. Any ideas or mounts for sale, pleast pass on.

THAT SUCKS!

Best of luck finding one.

May try to call around to taxidermist and ask if they have any that customers didn't pick up.

Sorry to hear. You may as well go ahead and post the taxidermist's name so everyone knows not to use him in the future.

Sounds like that taxidermist needs to be on the ball about getting you a replacement. Good luck!

Hit up other taxidermists in the area. I was at one the other day and he had a PILE of pieces that people no-showed for. And he had to eat the cost on a lot of them.

I got one in Monroe that is in storage. It was one my son shot with my dad and one of our vendors. The vendor took it and had it mounted. I already have a Mallard pair mounted along with about every other duck except for a Cinnamon Teal....

I have no room for it and it's in good shape. Downside is it is in Monroe and I will not be in until Monday 23 December but would be around all day Christmas Eve. Sorry that is the best I can do.

Man if I had one I’d give it to you. The fact that you are stressing this much tells me how good of a dad you are.

OP:

Contact Mr .Woody @ 985.630.6830 and tell him your conundrum. Woody is located in Madisonville off of Hwy 1077 and is a fine gentleman. The last time I picked a deer up from him, he had numerous ducks on display in his taxidermy building. I am sure he would be more than willing to assist you here.

That is where my son shot the Mallard I could give away. We know the owners. Great people and good lead. They may in fact have one.

OP I guess you are in BR? If anybody knows a Monroe-ite heading that way I could get it on a transport.

Do some due diligence here and make sure you do this in full compliance with the law. A former coworker of mine incurred a healthy fine when he “gave away” a mounted mallard in return for reimbursement for the cost of the mount. Recipient of the mount was an undercover LDWF agent.

Sorry to hear.

Honestly, I think your taxidermist should “misplace” somebody else’s mount and “find” yours with a discount attached. But that’s just me.

Sometimes I absolutely hate LDWF. They should have more important shite to worry about.

IDK if my coworker had some prior infractions but he was targeted in this instance and they took him to the mat.

It’s illegal to sell a mount?

Reminds me of a story...

Buddy of mine does taxidermy as a side gig. Dad brought him a woody drake for his 10 y'o's first duck. Thing was blasted to shite and couldn't be done. Ask me to bring him one that I killed. Turns out the one I brought was a larger drake in full plumage, it was a beautiful woody.

So there's a kid on the westbank somewhere that has one of my birds mounted...

This situation went way down into the weeds but a judge decided that my coworker was in violation for the sale of wildlife. He gave the duck itself to the undercover agent and accepted payment for the cost of the taxidermy.
